Scooterearz the New Collection

11 Oct

We reviewed Scooterearz last year and was super impressed with them.

Basically scooterearz are gloves for scooters. These are simply placed over the handle bars of the scooter then the child is able to place their hands inside. This means the child doesn’t feel restricted and is able to have a comfortable grip on the scooters handle bars. The child therefore keeps control of the scooter while keeping their hands warm… Simple but brilliant!

We were sent a pair of scooterearz in one of their latest limited edition designs… The Union Jack. These look fantastic on the handle bars of Harley’s Mini Micro.

Scooterearz come in their own bag for storage, they are totally waterproof and have a warm fleece inner lining making them really warm and comfortable.

These are compatible with both scooters and bikes so no one has to experience cold hands.

Here’s a little video of Harley giving them a try.

These really are great and myself and the little one would recommend them to any child who likes to scoot about whatever the weather.

The New Limited Edition Union Jack Scooterearz are available for £14.99 with free P&P.

Video Review of the blue Mini Micro with detachable O-bar and seat

DAYS TILL CHRISTMAS

As christmas draws ever so close we find ourselves nearing the end of our ‘Santa’s Little Helpers’ feature.

We have run some fabulous competitions and featured some spectacular products in our reviews but as it’s not over yet here’s another of them spectacular products!

This really is a ‘Must Have’, it’s the brand new Mini-micro with detachable O-bar and seat. The O-bar and seat makes the original Mini Micro scooter assessable to tots as young as one.

I have in-fact added a video to this review as words alone cannot describe how fantastic this new addition to the Micro range really is.

However I do have a few things to say about this fabulous scooter which I must add was an instant hit with myself and Harley.

The Mini micro with detachable O-bar and seat is designed to last your child through three stages which is

One: the ride on stage (designed for children aged 1-2 years)

Two: the O-bar stage (designed for children aged 2-3 years)

Three: the mini micro original T-bar stage (designed for children aged 3-6 years)

No more does Harley stare at his siblings all gooey eyed as they scoot about at the park, he can now actually join in with the fun.

Harley is quite tall and was able to use the scooter in its original form, however he still had a long way to go before he could fully master it. I really wasn’t sure how he would find the seat and whether he would actually use it! Well, I need not have worried, Harley took to it like a duck to water.

It did make me laugh watching him scoot along while in a sitting position, to my surprise he did it really confidently and without any problems occurring whatsoever.

He first took it for a spin on the way to my mother’s house who actually lives only a few streets away. At first he wanted me to hold his hand but as soon as he got going, he really went for it! I was actually really surprised how much speed he picked up once he got going.

Once at my mum’s my niece took a shine to the scooter, and at ten weeks younger than Harley she couldn’t wait to test it out. As you can see from the picture below Little Amy-Leigh even loaded her handbag on the back (typical woman, you’ve gotta love her for it)!

I absolutely love this little piece of equipment and so does Harley, its made taking the child out on their scooters so much more enjoyable knowing Harley can join in with all the fun, just check out the video below and you’ll know what I mean.

Note how Harley refuses to come inside forcing me to set chase up the road!

You may think that a children’s scooter with a price tag of £74.95 is steep, but seriously, this Mini micro is suitable for a child aged from one all the way up to the age of 6 years, I therefore feel this is excellent value for money.

For the Mini Micro Blue with detachable O-bar and seat attachment (also available in pink) price £74.95

The Mookie Mini Street Cruz 2

Days till Christmas

Harley watches his brother and sister scoot about on their scooters with wishful eyes so when the chance to add a Mookie Mini Street Cruz 2 to the Santa’s Little Helpers wish list popped up we decided this one was for the Littlest member of the household.

Harley is actually 2 in a few short days, with the scooter being recommended for a child aged 3 yrs plus, he is a little younger than the product is aimed at! However Harley is tall and quite advanced for his almost 2 years so it was final, Little H would put the scooter through its paces.

Mookie sent the mini Street Cruz 2 direct, and it came in no time at all, well packaged and to my door with a smile (always nice on a cold morning). Sadly the scooter sat in the hallway under the stairs untouched for a few weeks as Harley was unfortunately rather poorly with a recurring ear infection and his still not fully recovered.

I may have been acting like something of a big kid as in side this mother was bursting to get it out the box and hopefully it would put a much-needed smile on my little H’s face.

When that day finally came, I unpacked the street Cruz and discovered I had to assemble just the one set of wheels, which was so easily done, even for a mum who is really rubbish with any type of DIY.

The scooter has a really nice design, it was blue in colour and looked rather funky with it’s 3 clear plastic wheels and flexible neck.

I liked the fact that you had two wheels at the front and one at the back, it really did seem to provide H with better stability. I really loved the flexible neck, however this was the bit that made it hard for Harley to control.

Not that there was anything wrong with it, it just meant that the handle moved too freely and with Harley being that bit younger, he really couldn’t manoeuver it like an older child would be able to. However I feel this is something that would be quickly learnt and a child of Harley’s age would actually be at an advantage, as this would give them time to learn to steer the scooter as they grow bettering their gross motor skills at the same time.

This is certainly true as Harley has already managed to do one lap unaided up and down the hallway. His quite independent and I’m sure it wouldn’t take long for him to conquer it.

I got my nephew to also try the scooter who has not long turned 4. This meant I could see the full benefits of the flexible handle as it made it incredibly easy for this 4-year-old to steer.

Nonetheless, Harley whacked on his helmet and made sure I scooted him up and down the garden path, he giggled and shouted, “Again mummy, again” he really did love it.

All the same, there is a very happy 4-year-old who has just received the Mookie Cruz with the promise to pass it back to his cousin once his that bit bigger.

Parental perspective

A really nice little scooter at a fabulous price! This really is good value for money. As mentioned, Harley is a few days from becoming 2, his tall and the scooter is the perfect size, however because of the advanced steering mechanism I really would recommend this for a 3-5 year. The Street Cruz is very strong, looks awesome and its foldable for easy storage.

It gets a 4 **** star form us.

Santa’s Little Helpers, The JD Bug review

23 Nov

So, here’s another great toy for your little angels Christmas wish list.

The stunning JD Bug, super stylish original pink scooter.

Not only does this baby look the business, it acts it too!

This isn’t a brand new scooter to hit the market, the JD Bug has actually been bringing us this super sleek JD original for almost a decade, though it’s just as popular today as it was 10 years ago! JD Bug has done well to establish itself, appealing to a wide spectrum, it’s managed to secure itself a title as one of the top scooter brands of our time!

Kids today have gone scooter gaga, I can’t leave the house without almost being mowed down by one of these “Must Have” gadgets, each with its own brand, design and smiling rider. Seriously everyone has one and those that don’t normally want one!

This includes my own little monster princess. We, or should I say Alice-Sara has been incredibly lucky to receive a JD Bug Original Pink Scooter to review from the fabulous ‘Skates.co.uk’  who delivered the well packaged scooter in a mere 24 hours (Now that’s a service!)

We had an evening delivery which was perfect for us and meant no sitting around all day waiting for the delivery man to come knocking.

Alice-Sara totally freaked when she saw her new scooter, she went at the box like a monster as she tried to prise it from it box (Kids, they have no patience what so ever!)

Once opened I was please to discover a fully assembled gadget, Alice-Sara was also frilled given she wouldn’t need to wait for her mother to work out what goes where.

Also enclosed in the box was a CD Rom, some fab stickers and an instruction manual and warranty info.

The Scooter is very compact in its folded form, there is a  trigger release lever that opens out the scooter and the handlebar is fully extendable which is done by simply pulling another release cap. Even the JD Bugs hand-grips detach from the handlebar with the use of a release button and an elastic mechanism. All this is done without the use of any screwdriver which is always a bonus in any mothers book!

The JD Bug Original also comes with a detachable thick carry strap allowing you to carry the scooter with ease when not in use.

The design is pretty sleek too, chrome with splashes of baby pink on the handle-grips, foot-plate & clear wheels. It’s really well made, I discovered recently that the JD Bug is constructed from airplane graded aluminium as to provide maximum strength, whilst still being lightweight.

This is a scooter aimed at both children and adults alike, looking at it you would never guess! Yet, it’s extendable handlebar makes this totally possible and yes, “Of course I had a go” Mummy has to make sure its safe for her princess after all!

Well, it is safe… actually the JD Bug Original has received numerous safety awards recognising it as Europe’s safest folding scooter, so there is no need for mum’s and dad’s to worry!

Alice’s Thoughts

Alice-Sara Love’s it and said it was very grown up and cool! She loves the colour and the clear pink plastic wheels and enjoys cruising to school on her new best buddy. She noted it was very smooth to ride and can pick up some nice speeds. Alice-Sara finds it simple to open and fold the scooter and said its light enough for her to carry.

Alice-Sara gives her new scooter a 5***** star

 Prenatal perspective

This two wheeled scooter is a pretty nice piece of kit with a not so massive price tag of £49.99

Yes, there are many other scooter brands that charge a lot more! JD bug Original Pink, looks absolutely awesome works well and is pretty hard to outgrow with the recommended age of 4+ Its even ideal for adult use once fully extended.

Alice-Sara hasn’t managed to fall off the scooter and I’m pretty impressed at her scooting skills.

We love scooters in our house and Alice can now enjoy scooting at the park with her older brother (he has a three wide scooter which suits him better with his OT needs).

Skates are a fantastic online retailer stocking a wide range of scooters, BMX bikes & skates.

4**** stars from mum

The JD Bug Original has all the official bearings such as the ABEC 5 Chrome bearings.

It takes a Maximum rider weight of 100 kg and is suitable from age 4 years

Scooter extends to a maximum of 97 cms and weighs 2.7 kg

The JD Bug Original also comes with a 90 day manufactures warranty and is intended for both recreational and commuting purposes.

Scooting is much more fun with Scooterearz

22 Sep

I love writing a blog, not only is it a way to help me relax, reach out, raise awareness, share and vent, it also brings me some awesome opportunities, testing some of the latest products to hit the market.

Scooterearz, is one of them awesome products,

and here’s why!

If your child has a scooter, then you will relate when I say, “Kids like to take them everywhere” (Well, mine do). This is fine, I’m a mum who’s cool with that, after all it’s a great way for your children to stay fit and active.

However, when them summer days are turning cold, things are not so simple. Little man loves using his scooter, yet in the winter I’ve discovered that I’m the one dragging the scooter up the road because his decided his hands are much to cold to have out of his pockets. Yes, there are gloves, but this makes it harder to get a firm comfortable grip on the handle bars, therefore giving less control over the scooter. (which isn’t great with Little man’s motor skills) Little man also has sensory sensitivities (especially tactile) so he can’t seem to tolerate gloves for to long, preferring the fingerless type which isn’t ideal when out on your scooter.

That’s why I was interested in finding out more about this new product, ‘Scooterearz’.

 Here’s what the founders say…

Founded: October 2010

About: A brand new product designed to keep those little fingers warm in those cooler months.

Description: Scooterearz is a universal weatherproof hand warmer to be used specifically on children’s push along scooters. They stay attached to the scooter handlebars (although can be transferred easily ) and keep children’s hands snuggly warm.

Our Scooterearz came is a nice clear sturdy bag that can be used to keep and store your hand warmers in! We were sent the Dark blue Scooterearz with the red outer thread. There are a number of other colours you can choose from therefore offering something suitable for both girls & boys.

Little man was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to review the new Maxi micro scooter a few months back, so the scooterearz makes the perfect accessory while keeping the little guys fingers all lovely a cosy.

It was pretty hard to fully appreciate the product for its true potential given the weather was still pretty nice when they arrived! Then suddenly yesterday I noticed how cool the evenings had become! At around 8pm I decided to take Little man out on his scooter to burn of some energy to enable him to settle and therefore sleep once home (Yes, little man has problems with his sleeping so getting him to burn of some excess energy is a good idea).

At home on my Mac, already sat a review on the Scooterearz, yet I felt it deserved so much better, a real good  testing in the appropriate conditions and weather!

Little man instantly took to the hand warmer, despite the fact it is waterproof  (the waterproof material normally drives him up and around the bend) but Scooterearz has a cosy fluffy lining, removing that tactile experience for the little man.

Little man reported how his hands were nice and warm, the material was nice and cosy and he was still able to have a firm grip, maintaining full control of his scooter.

My daughter also had a go on her scooter (not a micro scooter, one she’s actually had a few years and due an upgrade) despite his fact the scooterearz still fitted to the handlebars of her scooter without any issues at all.

What I do love about the product is the fact that once the Scooterearz are attached to the handlebars (one on each side) they can remain there, but can be easily removed if & when desired.

We even tried it one the handlebars of little man’s bike which provided the same comfort.

We really like Scooterearz and feel it’s an awesome new product at a really reasonable price of just £12.99 RRP.

The full product launch is set for autumn, though you can already buy Scooterearz from a selected number of online stores or direct form scooterearz themselves, Right NOW.

Limited Edition Lime Green Maxi Micro Scooter

22 Aug

Little man had one hell of a surprise ready and waiting to greet him  when he returned home from his cousins at the end of last week. A stunning Limited edition lime green maxi micro scooter for him to review.

Little man isn’t really the kind of child that wants all the latest  stuff though his pretty good at asking for stuff in general! However, this largely consists of anything from train sets, bus models, xbox games, to the more unusual request, such as working shop tills, torches, fly catchers, pens or even padlocks. So I was full of delight when he told me he had seen a pretty sick scooter (his words, certainly not mine).

How overjoyed was I when the lovely Hayley (Mini micro PR) sent me an  email asking me what micro scooter we would be interested in reviewing as part of our Santa’s little helpers’ I knew it would plant a massive smile on his chops, and boy I wasn’t wrong. What makes Maxi micro scooters stand out from the crowd.

The design

A seriously stunning piece of equipment, it’s almost neon green colour contrasting with jet black, gives the design a real funky edge.

It has an extending T-bar reaching a maximum height of 93 cms and its lime green base is designed to be low to the ground (yet remains very robust) It has tough PU wheels and lime green handle grips for maximum comfort.

The scooter has a three wheeled design aiding the child’s stability while riding.

A follow on from the Micro mini the Maxi micro is designed for children aged between 6-12 years, taking the maximum weight of up-to 50-kg.

The Maxi itself weighs in at just 2.5 kg and its removable T-bar allows the scooter to be stored away or dismantled for travelling. This was an important feature for us, what with the delivery of the scooter the day before we went away there was absolutely no way he was leaving it behind.

Little man puts it to the test.

Little man loved it and has had fun scooting about since it arrived. His not once had an accident (a rare occurrence for him) and the next door neighbour (his little friend, thinks it’s awesome too). It’s currently his bestest thing in the world after his transport collection that is! When asking him what he rated it out of 10, he answered, “100” I guess that pretty much sums it up, he loves it!

 Parental prospective.

When it first arrived I instantly loved the colour and design, but couldn’t see why it was different from any other scooter! Well, I must be showing my 29 years as Little man firmly put me in my place. It was only when seeing what the Maxi micro scooter could do, did I really,”Get it!” This really isn’t any scooter, it’s so much more!
The Control your child gains over the steering is brilliant. I just loved the fact it had three wheels. Little man is under an OT as some areas of his gross motor skills are below other children of the same age (a direct result of the Aspergers syndrome). He quite obviously had much more stability riding the Maxi micro as opposed to any other scooter his tried.  Oh and this scooter is somewhat of a,”Mean Machine” as it wasn’t slow either! Don’t panic though, it’s easy for your child to control their speed which is dependent on how much leg power they initially put into it and the type of surface being used (be careful with hills). The scooters braking mechanism is also really good making it a pretty safe scooter.

All Maxi and Micro scooters have an outstanding safety record, they are really well built and designed by micro mobility systems, (a well respected Swiss company).

As a parent I couldn’t give it any less than the full whack when it comes to ranking it. Yes, it will set you back a bit currently priced at £99.95 but this is a scooter designed to last, offers so much more than your standard scooter, plus it has an outstanding safety record (which you just can’t put a price on)!
