If any of you read yesterdays post, you will know that I was pretty excited about a certain event due to commence this coming June 2012.
Those responsible for my excitement are Sainsbury’s, who are pulling out all the stops to give us Londoners and anybody else besides, the chance to celebrate the Queen’s pending Diamond Jubilee this June, in style.
Now I’m not just talking about a sing song in the sunshine, a picnic of Sainsbury’s taste the difference sandwiches and pink lemonade (as, lovely as they are)! No, I’m talking huge, a 2 day spectacular in-which the whole family can enjoy!
The event will be hosted by the lovely celebrity mum, “Myleene Klass” and the fabulous impressionist Jon Culshaw. With a programme packed full of wonderful performances from Strictly come dancing, hosted by Craig Revel Horwood, West Ends War Hose, Kids TV and Disney favourites, to a spectacular, magical 70 minute Disney concert starring all your favourite characters including the beautiful Disney’s princesses, specially for the diamond Jubilee. This is set to be an un-missable event.
There will also be a number of entertainment areas, from the main stage, a kids zone, Disney zone, parade ground, to a commonwealth stage. To read more about this exciting 2-day event taking place on the 2-3rd June 2012, read the full release, which can be found on yesterdays post HERE (includes links and ticket pricing).

Well, that was in-till I received a certain email
and now it would seem, that I have finally found something to get excited about at long last!
Check it out, a massive Jubilee party hosted by Sainsbury on…
Saturday 2 June, Sunday 3 June 2012 – Hyde Park London
Sainsbury’s is delighted to announce that the ‘Jubilee Family Festival Presented by Sainsbury’s’, will be hosted by the incomparable Myleene Klass and the UK’s favourite impressionist Jon Culshaw throughout the two-day fun-filled family Jubilee celebration. War Horse, the thrilling and spectacular West End production, has been confirmed to join the festival’s programme. The event will also play host to the very first performance, specially designed for a festival, from BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing presented by BBC Worldwide and hosted by Craig Revel Horwood. Already confirmed to return to this special Strictly Come Dancing dance floor is 2011 finalist Chelsee Healey. The event will take place in Hyde Park, on Saturday 2 June and Sunday 3 June 2012 from 10.30am – 7pm daily, with a capacity for 50,000 ticket holders on each day.
Jon Culshaw said: “I am honoured to be a part of the Jubilee Family Festival and to share the celebratory hosting duties with the stunning Myleene Klass. This unique event has more faces than I do and will be a brilliant way of keeping the family entertained in London for the Jubilee festivities.”
Choreographed especially for The Jubilee Family Festival the event will feature appearances by the puppets and actors from the National Theatre’s award-winning production of War Horse, currently playing at the New London Theatre. This unique and special arrangement will feature Joey and Topthorn, the breath-taking life-sized horse puppets who become the equine heart of the story, alongside the stunning musical arrangements and songs from the critically acclaimed production.
The Festival, with an action-packed and imaginative fun-filled programme, is being hosted by The Royal Parks and organised by world-famous promoter Harvey Goldsmith CBE on behalf of Sainsbury’s.
The finale of each day will be ‘The Magic Of Disney In Concert’ starring Princesses and Pirates, an unforgettable, 70-minute Disney concert produced specially to mark the Jubilee celebrations, featuring beloved Disney songs and characters.
The Jubilee Family Festival will be a once in a lifetime experience for the whole family to enjoy. Taking place in Hyde Park over two full days, visitors to the festival will be able to view the BBC live feed, on giant screens, of all of the Diamond Jubilee events on 2 June and 3 June, as well as being treated to some of the nation’s best live music and entertainment, including favourite kids television characters, celebrity performers and dancers, equestrian events and death-defying motorcycle displays, Commonwealth-inspired acts from around the globe and, of course, great food and drink from Sainsbury’s. Sainsbury’s has also teamed up with some of Britain’s best-loved brands who will be an integral part of the family fun and entertainment.
Inspired by the great British tradition of village fetes and street parties, The Festival will be themed around 60 years of great British heritage and will include influences from across the Commonwealth.
NOW TELL ME THIS DOESN’T SOUND GREAT!
I don’t know about you guys but the prospect of getting to dancing with the children to a Disney concert sounds super (though it sounds as if a very large crowd will be attending, so, Little man may rather stay with his dad, we will have to wait and see)!

So, you lovely lot, let me know what you all think! For those with alternative plans, I’d love to know what your up to?
At the beginning of the year I wrote a two-part post covering all the stuff that had happened during 2010 (yes, seriously this took two post and most of it was nothing but bad happenings). So, looking back through 2011 and realising just what an amazing year’s blogging I’ve had, I just had to do it all again.
So here it is, the busiest year on the blog so far, A boy with Asperger’s 2011
January: Not the best month to be honest, we finally get that all important statement of special educational needs for Little man, only toilet paper would have been worth more. Nonetheless we fight to the depths of the earth and it’s amended later in the year and thankfully contains everything he needs thanks to those all important independent assessments & reports.
February: We finally get some good news, which I document in the post, “The end of a chapter” The mainstream school in-which Little man used to attend finally holds up their hands and we get that all important apology in writing, we therefore settle on the Disability discrimination case only weeks before the tribunal hearing. Another great high to February was the invite I received from Cadbury that saw me and a friend attend an excellent Adult only event (no not in that way) we actually tried to set world records doing normal household chores with a twist (making a bed, unravelling toilet rolls and more besides). This was also the month that I got to interview Colin an adult with Asperger’s who had a very interesting message for Mr Cameron.
March: This was a terrible month, the month that saw my eldest Little man (AKA, A boy with Aspergers) get punched in the stomach by a much older youth of eighteen, while playing at the park with a friend and his mother. Little man was just ten at the time and had said “The wrong thing” to a group of older kids, you can read the post “How could that hurt my little boy” for the full story. March was also the month I shared my concerns on the pending Green paper in the post “Aspirations or clever financial alterations”
April: I’m contacted by the lovely Anna Kennedy in regards to her ‘Autism and bullying’ campaign, as a result of this little man appears in an ITV news report which I wrote about in the post “Little man’s television debut” which was perfect timing, what with it being autism awareness month. I also highlight how appearing on the television went to his head a little resulting in him asking everyone and anyone “Do you know who I am”
May: It was this month I wrote one of my favourite post to date “I’m no Vicky Pallord” I also discover that I’m nominated for a Mad blog award shortlisted in two categories, “Most inspiring blog” & “Blogger of the year”
June: Brings with it a fresh start for the Little man when the local LEA crave in before yet another tribunal, agreeing his place at his independent special school for children with autism and aspergers. This was also a really exciting month in the world of blogging, I was featured in two local papers, making front page news in “The Southlondon press” with the Headline “Mum sets blogging standard” & I was also featured in the “Newshopper” both highlighting the news that I had become a finalist in the Mad blog awards 2011. I also got to attend my first ever Cybermummy (blogging conference) and with it the blog received it’s first ever sponsor Londontown.com who paid for me to stay in a beautiful hotel on the night of the conference.
Nonetheless, although the above is all fabulously exciting, June was also a very emotional & overwhelming month, what with Little man adapting to his new routine and little sleep, it resulted in me writing this very open and honest post “falling apart”
July: This was the month I started the Santa’s little helpers feature resulting in me working with some pretty spectacular brands, we were also invited to the multimedia screening of Mr Poppers penguins in London’s , Leicester Square. Alice-Sara brings her friend who are both excited by the odd celeb spot. In the middle of the month me and the children attend the Pandemonium festival in Northampton to celebrate the release of kung-fo panda 2 as VIP guest of Cadbury. The children get to test the new mini games, Harley becomes obsessed by the panda himself and we eat lunch next to the ambassador of china (Yer, I was praying that Little man didn’t treat the guy and his family to a demonstration of a meltdown, “Asperger’s style”)! Myself and Harley my youngest also attended the Boots bump to Baby event in London’s beautiful Haymarket hotel where Harley took a shine to the lovely Rachel Stevens and the boots clothing range (from the pic below who would think his only 18 months here). July is also the month I treat readers to an up-date on the amazing progress Little man is making at his new school.
August: A busy yet crazy month as I celebrate the publishing of my three page article in the SEN publication (please check it out by clicking HERE if you haven’t already). Myself, youngest Harley, sister and her daughter get invited to the tots event of the year, “The lollibob” where we go VIP and the kids have a blast meeting the likes of Bob the builder, Peppa pig and Ben and Holly from the Little Kingdom.
August was also the month that saw chaos unfold in the devastating London riots. I organised a Lewisham riot cleanup on twitter with the use of the hash tag #lewishamriotclean and from then on everything went a little mad, what with being interviewed for the BBC breakfast show by Gabby in the back of a taxi on the way to Lewisham following a sleepless night due to the sounds of rioters looting the supermarket directly across the road. Then as myself and Little man (yes, he cleaned Lewisham too) stood in Lewisham with a dust pan and brush waiting for fellow locals who I’d rounded up with the help of social media to join us, I’m shocked to discover the BBC are there to greet us. Yes, they interviewed me and followed my progress throughout the day, I later cringed watching myself on the 6pm news, in a report that seemed to go on for ever. My use of the quote “Lewisham is cleaner than usual” following the councils own operation seem to be something of a hit and spread across the papers and internet like wide fire! The images of Little man clearing up outside JD Sports still melt my heart and make me mighty proud.
August saw us working with some great brands, Micro Scooter & Meccano to name just a few. Little man also has great fun testing sensory toys this month and I try to raise awareness for child mental health by opening up and writing “Just a Little girl”
September: This is a month that holds some great memories for me, not only did myself and some of the other Mad blog award finalist find ourselves invited to TKMaxx London’s flagship store to choose evening dresses and accessories for the for the Mad blog awards ceremony but I also went on to win ‘Most inspiring blog 2011’ at the awards itself, which was held at the fabulous Talk-Talk experience centre in London’s Soho. Not only did I win, get to meet a host of other fab bloggers but I also experienced a great working relationship with my mad blog awards sponsor ‘OptiBac Probiotics‘.
October: was a month that saw the blog working with some pretty big brands such as Sainsburys & Argos, I make two local papers again having been interviewed by the SouthLondon Press and the Newshopper on winning a Mad blog award! Little man takes over the blog, (well, kind of, he finally says how he feels in his first interview, for the blog) where he talks about his Asperger’s, discrimination, bullying, feeling different and acceptance, click Here to read.
November: I’m delighted to become a judge at the BBC Christmas ideal home show for the face of Argos competition which was an amazing experience. I’m invited to lunch by Sainsbury’s at the BBC NEC Winter food show where I also get to watch a live Master chef cook off, I have a great time and meet some awesome people at Liberty’s London when I attend a charity event and I also start working with the wonderful ‘John Crane’ and ‘When I was a kid’ check out the post ‘Joining Forces‘!
December: The last month of ‘Santa’s Little helpers’ I therefore launch the ‘Santa’s Little helpers, the big christmas countdown’ we feature loads of fantastic competitions with awesome prizes up for grabs. I also get invited onboard P&O ferries to take a trip from Dover to Calais alongside the lovely “Romanian mum where we shop till we drop, and to end such a fabulous year’s blogging, I’m lucky enough to be invited by the fabulous Tots100, to it’s big Christmas party at Butlin’s Bognor Regis where myself, friend and children get to stay in the beautiful Ocean hotel, though Little man finds the change a bit hard to bear.
Wow, there it is, what a year!
There’s been some massive ups and as you can expect one or two downs (what do you expect, this isn’t a fairy tale you know!) But you have to admit, it’s a massive improvement from 2010 that sadly along with 2009 saw much stress and heartache, which just proves, you never know what’s lurking around the corner!
I really do hope that ‘A boy with Asperger’s’ has provide readers with smiles, laughs, entertainment, inspiration, awareness and more!
Merry Christmas and a happy new year to all my amazing loyal readers
We love yer!
As many will already know, I recently bagged myself a Mad blog Award, which meant attending a lavish awards bash in Soho London and after a fabulous night with the “mummy bloggers” I was handed my Mads Goodie bag.
There was a host of fab items in that bag, from makeup to jewellery, there was just loads of it.
Brush-Baby were one the brands that put a few goodies in the bag, and so kindly sent me an email congratulating me on my win a few days after the awards.
After chatting some with the lovely guys at Brush-Baby, I agreed to do a review of some of their items.
Those that follow the blog will know that Little man has a number of sensory processing difficulties, especially when it comes to the sensation of touch.
This tends to be a difficulty that arises when it comes to teeth-brushing, it’s like a military operation trying to get the little guy to engage in such an activity every morning and evening. I therefore worry about his oral hygiene.
My daughter, thank goodness gives me no problems in this department, and so far so good with my 23 month old.
Nonetheless despite my youngest being keen to brush, I do worry “Mr independent” isn’t gaining the full benefits and he wont let me help, No way!
So my main focus was on the two boys.
After having a chat and expressing some of my concerns with the guys at brush baby, they sent me a bundle of stuff to try!
Brush-Baby baby and toddler toothpaste
Brush baby Chewable toothbrush
Brush-Baby FlossBrush
Brush-Baby Children’s Toothpaste
Brush-Baby DentalWipes (finger sleeve type)
Brush-Baby Chewable toothbrush
We were sent two of these one clear and one pink (the pink I gave to my niece 10 weeks younger than Harley)
The Chewable toothbrush is designed for little one’s between the age of 10 months to 3 years, and has been designed to not only help aid dental hygiene but also provide relief for the little one with sore gums.
You can use the Chewable brush with or without toothpaste, it can be cooled in the fridge to help soothe teething gums and is dishwasher and steam steriliser safe.
This was awesome and fits perfectly into Harley mouth. Little H has most of his teeth at 23 months however the back ones are only just starting to push through and after chilling this in the fridge for a bit it proved a god-sent, Little Harley chomped away on it for ages.
It did seem a little strange applying toothpaste to the brush, nonetheless it works as the paste sits between the actual bristles in a small ridge.
Brush-Baby DentalWipes
These are aimed at them first teeth and are recommended for babies up to 16 months, however I found them useful for both Harley (23 months) and even Little man (11 years) Ok, Little man wont get a full clean and will not benefit from them a great deal, but when you have a child who is highly sensitive and finds teeth brushing a huge task then why not try as the smallest of benefits is a benefit nonetheless! These prove great to use in between brushing, allowing both little man and baby H to keep on top of things. I highly recommend a pack of these when out and about, they are awesome!
The Dental wipes are designed as a finger sleeve and are also good for cleaning around the month. Harley loves these and he forever has one stuck to his finger! I think they are brilliant and I’ve already been out and brought a couple more packs.
Brush-Baby FlossBrush
This Flossbrush is aimed at children 3-6 years but as mentioned Little man age 11 is highly sensitive to tactile input and this goes for teeth brushing. I tried the brush on Little man and although his still not keen and it’s a huge struggle, he will now opt to use this brush! It’s quite soft and has short bristles to clean the tooth’s surface and slightly longer bristles to reach between the teeth and into the gum line. We liked the small brush head and easy grip handle making this difficult task that bit easier for the little man.
Brush-Baby children’s toothpaste
Again this toothpaste is aimed at children between the ages of 3-6 but suited Little man to a T, although he is some 5 years over the recommended age! The way I see it is, Its got to be better than using nothing at all! This is honestly the first ever toothpaste I have found my son wanting to use. He will openly state that he loves the taste of this toothpaste but still cannot stand the after effects that come with teeth brushing, such as the sensation left in his month and how everything taste weird for the next half hour or so! However the fact he likes this is a great starting point. The toothpaste contains both ‘Xylitol’ (which prevents the build up of bacteria) and ‘Fluoride’ (which strengthens the tooth’s enamel). It’s SLS free and comes in an awesome ‘Tutti Frutti’ flavour which just swung it for the Little man. His sister quite likes this one two and has used it whenever big brother isn’t watching!
Brush-Baby baby and toddler toothpaste
This toothpaste is designed for both baby and toddlers up to the age of 3. It contains both ‘Xylitol’ and lower ‘Fluoride’
I loved that this is a low foaming paste making it ideal for both baby and toddler, it’s SLS free and better still its safe to swallow which is reassuring as this tends to happen a lot for Harley. The gentle Apple-mint flavour also proved a huge hit with Little Harley and he uses it regularly with his new Chewable toothbrush.
I really like the Brush-Baby range of oral hygiene products. With the exception of the chewable brush and the FlossBrush, I have already brought more of the other products (both types of toothpaste and the dental wipes) Which I picked up from our local supermarket.
All Brush-Baby product seem reasonable priced and can be brought from a number of well-known stores including Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Lloyds Pharmacy.
Last week it was the turn of Argos and now it’s Sainsburys, another fab retailer who has joint us on the Santa’s Little Helpers mission this November.
We have a massive Sainsburys superstore just down the road from us, it’s where we do almost all our shopping. I buy everything from my weekly shop to TU clothing, homeware and even toys and games. Seriously, we have bagged ourselves an array of bargains over the years, especially in the sales.
That’s why I’m super excited to have them on board. Sainsburys knows how expensive Christmas can be, hence the reason they have something to suit all budgets. Not only do they sell a huge range of brand toys but also a range of their own. It’s some of this range I’ll showcase on the blog today and better still all can be brought for a tenner 0r less!
Cosy Dinosaur
This is a delightful gift for both child and adult alike. This adorable Dino is extremely cosy, its super soft body is filled with a mix of herbal delights that let of a beautiful aroma (note, this may be overpowering for some). Little man loves this Dinosaur and it’s truly become a real sensory buddy for him.
The ‘Cosy Dinosaur’ can be heated in the microwave and then taken of to bed for a cuddle. Both its scent and warmth are designed to help ease your child to sleep, excellent if your child has difficulty sleeping like mine. Another added bonus is the fact the Dino is quite weighted, which suits little man down to a T! Each night he snuggles up to it placing it directly on his chest which provides him with lots of sensory comfort.
Though Little man isn’t the only one who loves the Cosy Dinosaur! Alice also went a little loopy for it, so much so we went and brought another one just for her.
Cosy Dinosaur displays a price tag of just £10 and can be found in the Sainsburys gift guide.
We were massively impressed and both myself and children gave the Cosy Dinosaur a 5 star *****
Pet Carry Case
The pet carry case is part of Sainsburys ‘Lets pretend’ range and is aimed at pre-school children aged from 3+.
You get a small cuddly puppy with a number of grooming accessories, complete with pet carrier.
Even though this is recommended for the child over 3 years, Harley who is a month of his second birthday had tons of fun with this one. He is quite advanced in play and already interacts with his toys. I think this has a lot to do with the observations he makes of his older siblings, especially that of his sister.
Harley had lots of fun taking care of his little puppy! He brushed its fur and even gave it a little blow dry which was very cute to watch.
His enjoyed carrying the puppy around the house in its carrier and even took it to Nannies house last weekend.
There was only one downfall and that was Harley trying to push and trap our 6 month old cat in the tiny toy pet carrier! Poor Bella has been left a bit of a mental wreck.
The pet carrier can be brought for under £10 and we gave it a 4 star ****
Toy remote control Car
Stocking Filler
This is a little red sports car that is controlled with the use of a remote control (It should be noted that this isn’t wireless and the remote is attached to the car via a wire).
The car itself is plastic but nicely made, it’s quite small in size making it the perfect stocking filler.
It does have a few delightful features. There are four buttons located on the control,
Open: Makes the roof come down and your car is now a convertible
Close: closes the roof.
Forward facing arrow: Car moves forward.
Reverse key: Car backs left and right and can spin a 90% circle
Little man was fascinated by the roof opening and closing feature, though Harley was crazy about the whole thing. However I would supervise the smaller child who plays with this car as like I mentioned before, it was attached to a wire.
A great stocking filler for maybe a 5-6 year old as a first remote controlled car, though it’s also great for a younger child under supervision.
This little car can be brought from Sainsbury’s for under £10
We gave it a reasonable 3 stars ***
So, there you have it, three awesome buys for £10 and under!
With half price toy sales and fantastic offers taking place both in store and online why don’t you check them out this Christmas. Click HERE for the fall Sainsbury toy range.
