#Win A Bundle Of Baby Jake Toys

27 Feb

20130227-032729.jpg

Us mums of pre-schoolers all know and love Baby Jack, that loveable character from Cbeebies… the show with the very catchy theme tune.

Well, this week the toddler has been busy reviewing one of the latest toys in the Baby Jake range brought to us by Vivid.

Musical baby jake is a mini version of the real thing. He is a soft bodied doll that when his tummy is squeezed, plays the Baby Jake theme tune.

20130227-033148.jpg

Admittedly his somewhat smaller than I first expected but he is a nice size, that’s actually ideal for toddlers little hands.

20130227-033008.jpg

Musical baby jake is easily operated and the toddler had no issues with knowing how to work the toy.

20130227-033245.jpg

There was one issue I had with this toy! Although this takes batteries, you are unable to change them. Having looked for where to put the batteries for sometime I finally noticed the very small writing on baby jakes tag explaining that the batteries were non replaceable. I don’t think the packaging does to good a job at letting this fact be known.
Saying that, Baby Jack hasn’t actually ran out of batteries as yet so I really can’t give an indication of just how long these may last.

Harley does like the toy. Its pretty cute and resembles the character well. The theme tune (Yacki Yacki Yoggi song) isn’t overly loud but loud enough for the toddler.

Musical Baby Jake is suitable for children aged 2 years and over and has an RRP of £9.99

My nephew also got the chance to play with the fabulous Baby Jake Musical TV. This is suitable for children aged 12 months +. This super cute toy is easily operated with the press of a button. As the theme tune plays the TV displays cute images of baby Jake on one of his fabulous adventures.

Baby Jake Musical TV has a RRP of £9.99

Other new additions being introduced to the range for 2013 include… The new Push Along Digger (RRP £4.99). Suitable for children 18 months+, this mini marvel comes in a cheerful shade of yellow and features Baby Jake figure at the wheel! As Baby Jake is pushed along in his digger, see the digger arm move up and down as it travels across the floor.

20130227-033431.jpg

Coming soon…Baby Jake blasts off into space this autumn with Astronaut Baby Jake (RRP £19.99). Sporting blue space suit and essential rocket pack on his back, Baby Jake is all ready for the countdown to blast off! Squeeze Baby Jake’s tummy to hear him talk about space and listen to him respond with additional space statements as he flies through space!

Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom coming to the live stage

24 Jun

My toddler Harley really loves the experience of meeting his favourite pre-school characters in the flesh.

His been pretty lucky to meet many, Bob the Builder, Firemen Sam, Peppa Pig, Scooby Doo, just to name a few.

We have been to live stage productions such as “In the Night Garden” and “Peppa Pig” to a number of meet and Greets while attending children’s events.

So, you can imagine the excitement that will be caused when he discovers that Princess Holly and Ben Elf from “Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom” has a live production scheduled to hit the big stage later this year.

20120624-152741.jpg

If you little ones are fans of the Little Kingdom then check out the details below. (Oh and be sure to check out My updates on the event as there will also be the opportunity to try and win yourselves some tickets).

BEN & HOLLY’S LITTLE KINGDOM

LIVE ON STAGE FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME

FROM THE MAKERS OF PEPPA PIG
NEW UK TOUR FOR 2012/2013

TOUR DATES FOR 2012 ANNOUNCED:
OPENS 26 OCTOBER at THE ORCHARD THEATRE, DARTFORD

www.benandhollylive.com

From the makers of Peppa Pig and the producers of the two hugely successful Peppa Pig theatre tours comes the first ever stage version of the BAFTA award-winning TV animation, Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom. This brand new UK tour opens at The Orchard Theatre, Dartford on 26 October at the start of an extensive UK tour, booking through till summer 2013.

Currently a top favourite show for pre-schoolers, this charmingly magical animation airs on Nick Jr (since April 2009) and on 5’s Milkshake (since April 2010). Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom is co-owned by animation studio Astley Baker Davies and has been a hit with audiences and critics alike. The series won a BAFTA award for Best Pre-School Animation in 2009 and a British Animation Award for Best Pre-School Series in 2012.

The Little Kingdom – where everyone is very, very small – is home to Princess Holly and her best friend Ben Elf. Holly is a young fairy princess who is still learning how to do magic properly and sometimes her spells don’t work out quite right. Ben is an Elf. Elves don’t do magic but they are very good at making things. Ben doesn’t have wings like Holly but he flies on the back of Gaston the Ladybird.

In this exciting new musical adventure, Ben and Holly have fun and games helping Gaston clean up his messy cave; they go on a trip to The Big World with tooth-fairy Nanny Plum; and still have time to plan a surprise for King Elf’s birthday party, complete with an unplanned jelly flood.

Packed full of games, songs and laughter, this is an enchanting and magical visit to the Little Kingdom, live on stage for the very first time. This beautiful story of elves, princesses and childhood innocence will delight all the family.

Richard Lewis has adapted the TV animation for the stage and also directs. He also adapted and directed the two highly popular Peppa Pig theatre tours (2009 – 2011 and the current tour 2011 – 2012, both of which had sell-out West End Christmas runs at the Criterion Theatre) and the two LazyTown Live! tours (2007 – 2009).
The composer is the highly talented Mani Svavarsson. He was also part of the creative team on the two Peppa Pig stage tours.

Cast and other creative team members to be announced in due course.

Little one’s can take great pictures with the V-Tech Kidizoom Twist this Christmas

24 Dec

1

DAY TILL CHRISTMAS

The children have been extremely lucky to road test some of the newest toys on the market, and as the Santa’s Little helpers comes to an end we still have a few more to come.

When we were asked to review the V-Tech Kidizoom Twist, I have to admit that I myself became a tad over excited! Harley is forever putting his little chocolate fingers all over my camera so the prospect of him having his own couldn’t have come soon enough.

The Kidizoom Twist is in fact aimed at pre-schoolers aged from 3 years, Harley may actually only be 2, nonetheless he loved it all the same! It really is felt that my youngest little helper may in fact grow up with an interest in photography, and his not half bad at it either.

V-tech have been extremely clever when creating the Kidizoom twist, the must have Christmas Gift which is featured in the ‘Argos, fab fifteen’ (Top fifteen christmas toys for 2011).

The 2 megapixel camera camera with 5 digital zoom and coloured screen has a number of clever features designed to bring ease of use, entertainment and learning to it’s tiny users. The Kidizoom twist really is more than just your average kid’s camera. It’s really funky design makes it super cool and appealing to children while it’s designed to restrain bumps and falls avoiding them horrid costly replacements.

The Kidizoom Twist features not one but two lenses window’s so your tot doesn’t come across the problem of having to angle the camera in-order to see their target image and position the camera accordingly to take a picture. The child can instead hold the camera at eye level and take a picture with ease.

That’s not all, this camera has a number of special editing features allowing your child to create some great features to their pictures such as frames, wacky stamps and the ability to distort the picture in-order to create some really funky funny faces, which I feel is very appealing for children on the autism spectrum (Harley’s elder brother, Little man loves this feature on his younger brother’s latest gadget). Another fabulous feature to this camera is the voice recording mode that allows you to edit & change the tone of your voice to five effects (pitch up, pitch down, slow, robot and echo)  you can then add the edited voice to your images.

The Camera also has a number of built-in games, five in total, you can even use your own pictures within the games to play games such as spot the difference amongst a whole host of others.

If all that doesn’t sound great enough Kidizoom also has the capability to video, giving it that extra edge.

Oh… and in case you were wondering about the name and the reference it makes to the word twist? This camera does actually have a revolving lenses, meaning it spins round to face the photographer in-order for them to create the perfect self-portrait or video of themselves.

Harley loved the Kidizoom twist and to be honest so do his older siblings who actually ran-out two different sets of batteries. Little Harley is just mastering them all important motor skills so yes, he did drop the camera once or twice, but the protective rubber casing around the camera ensured its safety and saved it from breakage.

We, actually received the camera on the morning of the day we set of to Butlin’s so Harley got to bring his lovely new Kidizoom twist along for the ride, which provided lots of photo taking opportunities.

Parental perspective.

I loved this eye-catching camera from v-tech, the only disadvantage I have, is the fact the screen is a tad small (I did expect a slightly bigger screen) though this is meant for younger children and despite the screen being a little small its more than enough for a pre-schooler. I did love the amount of features V-Tech have packed into this kids camera, it really is so much more than a camera, with games and video recording, it’s my opinion that the camera is great value for money.

The camera helps the development of hand eye coordination, gross and fine motor skills while allowing their growing imaginative and creative sides to shine through. It’s great, not only is this super fun but it’s actually quite educational too!

We easily award this one with a 4 out of 5 stars.

Olly The Little White Van

16 Dec

Sometimes it’s Lovely to watch something other than Bob the Builder, Peppa pig or Ben and Holly in our house, so when Olly the Little white van popped through our letter box I popped it in the DVD player when Harley wasn’t looking and hoped he would somehow become drawn to it.

Well, he did and who wouldn’t be? Olly is a lively little white van, who alongside his diver Stan is always happy to help a friend in need in any way he can, while embarking on a host of fun-filled adventures along the way!

I’ve discovered that this energetic Little white Van is actually a very popular addition to the children’s shows broadcasted on the CITV channel. I will admit we didn’t know this, well we don’t really catch much CITV at-all! Why? Because we normally find ourselves watching Cbeebies (I say we, I actually don’t mean me, just the tiny toddler, Harley)! I was pleasantly surprised with this upbeat children’s show with funky theme tune and nicely wrote story lines, Oh, and yes… so was Harley.

There are many other fab-tastic characters besides Olly and his driver Stan! There’s Olly’s mischievous best friend Bazza and the ever experienced Jethro the tractor too.

When I loaded the DVD in the player, I did so before getting a look at any press release so instead of putting my coffee to one side and getting of my backside I sat thinking to oneself, “God I know that voice”and know it I did, once the penny had finally hit the ground I realised that the familiar voice being played through my TV set was in fact OBE award receiver Justine Fletcher, known to many as the lovely Mr tumble…. from “Something Special” amongst many other children’s favourites.

We, Oops… I mean Harley 🙂 really did enjoy watching these perfectly timed episodes of Olly and his friends (each one lasting around five minutes each, therefore doing a splendid job at holding tiny tots and their tiny attention spans, unless your children are that bit older in that case you may find them a little bit short).

With each episode myself and the tiny terror swung our pants & pull-ups to the funky beats of the very catchy theme tune, and when it was over the tune just kept on playing (IN MY HEAD)!

This really is one you might like to take a peek at! Little boys & girls alike will love the fun adventures of this super cool little white van who shares a very important message that… “Helping people is a good thing to do” Sadly you can guarantee you’ll be quite drawn to it too.

Don’t take my word for it, just make sure you tune in to CITV weekday mornings at 9.45 am and if that’s to early or you’re not back from that oh so lovely school run by then, you can also catch it during the afternoons at 1pm

Review and competition of the new Jack and Holly’s Cosmic Stories

14 Dec

11

DAYS TILL CHRISTMAS

Welcome to the wonderful world of Jack and Holly & wonderful it really is!

We were sent a copy of Jack & Holly’s Cosmic Stories to review as part of our Santa’s Little helpers and Christmas countdown feature. The series, a low-budget children’s production has been developed with the help of parents, teachers and more importantly children themselves.

Cosmic Stories is the second release following Jack & Holly’s Christmas Countdown and is brought to us by ‘Blockhouse TV’ a husband and wife team who are proud parents of two children aged 3 & 6 years.

The couple have more than 20 years of experience between them & being parents themselves makes them passionate when producing a series aimed at pre-schoolers.

The producers have deliberately used muted colours as opposed to the more traditional high-octane colours seen more today. This combined with soothing music and good old-fashioned animation techniques makes it kinder to little minds. The overall aim is to create an informative, yet entertaining animation that when viewed later in the day (the child’s last bit of TV time) it will help bring relaxation while encouraging interesting chats at bedtime alongside good parent, child interaction.

Jack & Holly’s Cosmic Stories sees our two best friends ‘Jack & Holly’ reveal interesting, educational facts and stories about our universe. This is a DVD created to bring awareness of some of life’s key questions such as “What is a Solar System?” or “What is the moon made off?” it even talks about the ‘Big Bang’ and the possibility of other life forms on other planets.

I will be honest, when sitting down to watch this with Harley, I myself become pretty engaged and therefore was really impressed by it.

I was pleasantly surprised at how educational yet entertaining the feature was. The animation reminded me of my own days of watching children’s TV back in the eighties when I myself was a child with a mind like a sponge.

We were also very lucky to be sent a copy of the first DVD ‘Jack & Holly’s Christmas Countdown’ which aims to teach children as young as two the joys and meaning of Christmas.

Harley loved both titles but was very impressed by the Christmas Countdown, mainly due to his age (his aged 2). Harley has since become overly interested in Santa and more so the ‘Snowman’

The title ‘Cosmic Stories’ is aimed at children 3+ nonetheless at age 2 Harley was pretty engaged in the production which managed to hold his attention really well.

 Overall Parental Perspective

The balance of both informative educational material & entertaining animation is perfect and it’s my opinion that children will learn a great deal from the Jack and Holly series without even realising it.

There are many children with Aspergers & autism out there with a real taste for interesting facts on our universe! This would be perfect for them as it would aim to answer all them questions too often thrown at parents. I say this because I know a child on the autism spectrum who would go crazy for this DVD (note this isn’t the Little man, his more of a transport lover, though he did sit and watch this from start to finish, alongside his sister Alice-Sara).

The makers of the series have been very clever thinking both about both the attention span of young children alongside what maybe considered an appropriate amount of TV viewing time a parent may want their child to engage in. With this in mind the DVD has been chopped into seven bite sized pieces to give the parent complete control over how much time to allow their child to watch the DVD.

I honestly think that despite the recommended age of 3+ the second DVD release ‘Cosmic Stories’ would appeal to child of all ages, even those in the primary years as it’s packed full of interesting educational facts, some that I didn’t learn about myself till I was at-least 7 or 8. With this in mind I think it would be a fabulous resource for schools, especially for those teachers who are planning a term of lessons around the subject of the universe. If teachers were to screen ‘Jack and Holly’s Cosmic Stories’ as to form part of their lesson plan, children would see it as a rewarding treat without even realising that their little minds were being feed  loads of interesting & educational facts, therefore learning without knowing it, which in my opinion is one of the best ways of educating any child, regardless of their age or abilities.

Would I recommend either DVD? Without a doubt, yes I would!

Christmas Countdown 4* (better for the younger children aged from 2).

Cosmic Stories: 5* (Recommended for children 3 and above but safe viewing for the younger child too).

Visit the Jack & Holly website for more info and a list of retailers, just click HERE

Fun with Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom

22 Nov

Another one for the Christmas List, We are really not far from the big “C” there is truly no getting away from it!

This time I’m sharing mine and the helpers views on the Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom Lotto Game.

Oh yes, Like many other Pre-schoolers across the land, my Little Harley who is 2 next month is a “Massive” Ben and Holly fan, he loves it!

The other two? well… not really, at almost 9 Alice-Sara loves her Monsters high, Barbie and everything else girlie and the Little man spends his days investigating new Bus routes, building with Lego and discovering his other interests, however since doing the Little helpers both are more inclined to join me and the youngest member of the family in playing a game or two.

So, that’s what we did when we received the Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom Lotto game by Entertainment one ! The game is recommended for children aged 3+ Harley at almost two is a tad young, however as my partner in crime and with lots of prompts he was able to really get involved and had loads of fun doing so. The way I see it is, his engaging learning and taking it in bit by bit, he will get many years to play this on a more independent level.

Product Description

A fun Lotto memory game featuring Ben and Holly plus other favourite characters from the TV show. Holly has mixed up all the things in the little kingdom whilst practising her magic spells. Can you help her put them all back where they belong?

Our thoughts

The concept of the game is rather simple, yet extremely fun for the little ones. It’s a great way to help aid the development of your child’s memory skills as-well as that of their concentration and thinking style.

Memory games are also really great for children with autism or those with additional needs as I’ve demonstrated in past post when reviewing a range of games with Little man.

This isn’t your typical memory game! Basically each player selects a card and looks to see if it features any of the featured images on their lotto card, whoever fills their six game slots on their lotto card first is the winner.

Harley would select the card and pass it to me. If we had the featured item I would cheer and clap, this got him very excited causing him to cheer even when our opponents found one of their cards, bless him, he’ll soon get out of that, I’m sure 🙂

The older two found it quite easy but really enjoyable especially my eldest with Aspergers. His been found head first in the toy box digging out the game a number of times! I even discovered him playing it alone last week, um… not to sure how that worked but I left him happily to it!

Have to give this one a five star*****

If not for the fantastic valule for money but the endless family fun it’s provided!

Would make an excellent gift for any little Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom fan

Plus it’s a Great addition to the toy box

Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom Lotto Game is aimed at Children 3 years plus, it’s for 2-4 players and is priced at an amazing £7.99 RRP (in my opinion a little price for a great game) It’s very well made and if looked after will last for many games over many years.

Fancy a game of Lotto? Ben and Holly’s Little kingdom Game is available form all good retailers so… make sure you get yours this Christmas.

I’ve uncovered it for you at Debenhams in the Sale for the awesome price of £5.60

PLUS THEY HAVE FREE P&P FOR A LIMITED TIME ONLY!

It’s too much of a deal to ignore isn’t it? Click HERE for the Debenhams website to get yours.

Ben and Holly fans can now head over to the official Facebook page, why not check it out by clicking HERE

Thanks to Entertainment one for sending me a copy of the game for the purpose of this review.

Win the fabulous Humf & the fluffy thing on DVD

8 Sep

So, the children are back at school and all is going well! It feels nice but a tad strange that no one calls me ten times a day asking me to pick up little man from school! This time last year, I was to scared to even leave the house and venture out to far in case I was called by an unhappy head-teacher demanding I collect my distracting child right away! I actually went with a friend and baby H, to Honeydale farm yesterday, which is around 18 miles away from my home, it felt fantastic to be this carefree for a change.

With the rest of the day to waste, me and H snuggled down on the sofa and watched, “Humf and the fluffy thing” We were sent the DVD a few weeks back and had been asked to check it out prior to its formal release. What’s even better is that I get to give one away to one of you lucky readers!

Humf and the Fluffy Thing is the brand new delightful adventures of what is undoubtedly, the rising star of pre-school television. Due to be released on 12th September 2011 from Entertainment One, this highly anticipated  DVD includes a bonus disc containing an additional 6 episodes absolutely free! Narrated by leading British actress, Caroline Quentin,  Humf is the story of a lovely furry thing who is full of wonder at the world and is always eager to explore new things. Humf has been entertaining young children and their parents on Nick Jr since 2009, and the show now ranks in Nick Jr’s Top 5.

The DVD contains a total of 16 episodes including those on the free bonus disk.

Humf and the fluffy thing has an RRP price of £9.99 and is a cert U

With Humf books and toys due to hit our UK stores this autumn, It’s all going on!

Did we enjoy watching the DVD?

Well, Little H loved it! We don’t have the Nick Jr channel, so this was new to us.

H is 21 months old and was griped. A very colourful production that keeps even the youngest of toddlers engaged.

Now… Don’t get me wrong, we love Cbeebies in this house, Yet a little bit of Humf was a pleasant change. Each episode is around five minutes long, which is ideal for young children as it stops them becoming bored.

The stories were great, and even I loved the one about the late night party and Humf’s sleeping issues.

Warning

The theme tune is dead catchy (the type that gets stuck in your head)! Do not be surprised if you find yourself humming the tune while engaging in your household chores, taking a shower, or worse dancing and seemingly enjoying it!

So,  now you know what music I listen to these days, Lets give one of these beauties away!
