A Picnic on the Moon

19 May

My 2-year old may be going through them “terrible twos” where’s his ability to throw a tantrum at the drop of a hat for no apparent reason occurs all to frequently, but his still at that really cute stage too!

This maybe hard to picture when your toddler is fast becoming a real little handful but it’s very much the case.

I love watching my 2 year old sons interest evolve, that almighty smile that breaks out across his cute little face when his excited about something or another!

At the present moment, besides his beloved ‘Bob the Builder’ and that magical engine ‘Thomas the Tank Engine’… His now totally nuts on Peppa pig and Ben and Holly’s Little kingdom. So when asked to review the newest DVD release of ‘Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom – The Elf Games” how could I refuse?

Harley was a very lucky boy as we got sent the pre-release copy of ‘The Elf Games’ which was officially released on DVD for the worlds Ben and Holly fans to enjoy on the 14th May 2012.

Episodes include…
Elf Games
Cows
The Toy Robot
Dinner Party
Big Bad Barry
King Thistle’s Birthday
The Wand Factory
Daisy and Poppy’s Pet
The Elf Rocket
Picnic on the Moon

As a grown woman it’s a little disturbing that I’m about to admit the fact that I found myself almost sucked into the world of Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom during more than one of the listed episodes above! Now, some may argue that I just don’t get out much, to some degree I’d defiantly agree, nonetheless, hand in the air, I admit… I quite enjoyed it! 🙂

Yes, it was a tad hard not to, especially the last two episodes that caused Harley to chant “Again… Again” every time they came to an end!

The last two episodes are in fact one, this is because “The Picnic on the Moon” is a follow on from the “Elf Rocket”
Both are really sweet and surprisingly funny especially when nanny plum gets sucked out the rocket looking for a toilet, then bops about in the atmosphere in-till she’s rescued! Part two carries on the humour when nanny plum causes one of her famous jelly floods on the moon. This turns it red, well, in-till the aliens happily eat it all up returning the moon to its natural state. But by far the best bit was just how they got back to earth… I won’t spoil it but it had myself and the toddler giggling.

‘Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom – The Elf Games’ gets a big thumbs up from the toddler who is actually practising magic every time his cross with someone “I do magic on you….” is his new favourite turn of phrase.

Above he sits cuddling his beloved Ben Elf, Princess Holly and Gaston the lady bird… Thank goodness for eBay.

The DVD is available over on Amazon for just £7.99

The Newly Released Phillipa Kinckerbocker Glory

26 Mar

Reading is an important life skill that should be achieved as early as possible in a child’s life. All my children love books, and my toddler is no exception to this!

Harley has many picture books and he loves nothing more than a bedtime story.

When choosing a book for Harley, I look for big bold bright illustrations, ones that will capture his little imagination in an instant, and it’s my opinion that this is what I found in the children’s picture book “Phillipa Knickerbocker Glory”

Phillipa Knickerbocker Glory is a delightful picture book by children’s author Sarahjane Funnell. Although it is primarily aimed towards children aged 3-6 years, Harley age 2 is already a big fan!

It’s not surprising really, considering this is a story about ice-cream, one of his favourite things at present.

At first glance this may seem a very girlie read, what with its use of pretty pinks and princesses throughout, however, not one to stereotype I read to Harley with an open mind.

Both the exciting storyline and wonderful illustrations had Harley smiling from start to finish.

The book is the perfect length for a toddler and I found it held Harley’s attention better than most stories we’ve read in the past. Its simple but magical and that’s what makes it great! I’d highly recommend the book Phillipa Knickerbocker Glory to parents of both young girls and boys, as a great addition to the bedtime story cabinet.

Check out the short book description below

Short description: Phillipa loves ice cream. She loves ice cream, almost as much as she loves her pet cat Little Miss Whiskers. Little Miss Whiskers is her fluffy white cat with a purple collar and bell. She doesn’t like Ice cream at all but loves nothing more than to curl up into a ball and fall fast asleep on the end of Phillipa’s bed.

One day Phillipa Knickerbocker Glory and Little Miss Whiskers embark on a deliciously exciting journey. Through a secret tunnel, they enter a magical dreamland where they find the Ice cream castle and discover every flavour of ice cream imaginable. The Ice cream castle seems like a dream come true but will it be just how Phillipa imagined? With all that ice cream, will she and Little Miss Whiskers ever want to go home?

Read this fabulous story to find out just what happens next in this deliciously delightful adventure…

This is a truly magical adventure for all little girls and boys who love to eat ice cream.  🙂

You can get hold of a copy of Phillipa Knickerbocker Glory from www.phillipaknickerbockerglory.co.uk, Waterstone’s, WH Smith and other selected book stores from today… Yes, this delightful children’s picture book has been officially released as of today (26/03/2012)

Last Minute Christmas toys

DAY TILL CHRISTMAS

So, it’s just one more day till Christmas, are you excited?

Today is literally your last chance to shop!

For those of you, who still have one or two more gifts to buy, here’s a little inspiration.

Something for the toddlers

Octonauts Gup B-Vehicle with Kwazii & shark playset

This fabulous bath toy sent to my Little Harley to test by Argos, is the perfect toddler playset.

This toy is so super that you can even find it in the Argos ‘Fab 15’ (Top toys for Christmas).

If like me you have no clue what Octonauts even is, it’s a new CBeebies undersea animation that little CBeebies fans seem to love.

Strangely, on presenting the toy to Harley he shouted out “Kwazii… Wow” to which I didn’t have the slightest idea what he was talking about!

You see, I’ve never come across the series which is a tad weird considering CBeebies is daily viewing in our house, I guess I had never took notice of it! When It came on a few days later, it was only then I connected the two. Harley however seems to love Octonauts and is fully aware what it is, making this a pretty awesome choice of toy to review.

My, now 2-year-old has always been something of a water baby, so the fact this is also a bath toy makes it that bit more special!

The Octonauts set can be played with in and out the bath, just put Kwazii in the driver’s seat by opening the clear dome and your ready to go! On dry land the Gup B Vehicle can zoom about the floor with the use of it’s wheels or take it in the bath and treat it like a submarine. By pushing the Gup B’s fin its Jaws open and close and Harley just loves pretending that it’s eating all of his other toys, just yesterday I discovered Bob the builders legs hanging out of its mouth. This feature also works really well in the water and when pushing the fin Gup B chomps and squirts water everywhere (very delightful). If this wasn’t enough to amuse my little fellow, the set also comes with a small grey shark with rod that once in water, changes colour.

Harley really has had lots of fun playing with the Octonauts playset! Argos stock a whole host of Octonaut toys and considering how much of a fan Harley is of his current set, I’ve brought him a few others for Christmas.

Parental perspective

A well made, great value play set with lots of playability. Harley never seems to get board of playing with it and it’s joined him for each and every bath his had since he received it some weeks back. The set comes with an age recommendation of 3 years, Harley is 2 but plays with it without any problems whatsoever (note the rod & shark are a little small so may not be ideal for the child who enjoys chomping on their toys).

The set consists of a reasonably sized Gup B vehicle with Kwazii figure and colour changing shark.

It’s my opinion that the picture in the catalogue and that of the one on the internet doesn’t do this toy much justice! It’s much bigger than I expected, which is a good thing! It came well packaged but was a breeze to free from it’s packaging which is always a bonus (if you’re like me and hate all them twisted wires and overload of tape you’ll love how easy this one is to set free).

Priced at £13.99 I’d go as far as branding this toy a true bargain and would highly recommend it.
A deserved 5***** stars are awarded.

Something for the girls

Barbie Puppy water park playset

Alice was overjoyed at discovering Argos had sent her a Barbie puppy water park to review (another toy listed as one of Argos fab fifteen). This nice sized set comes complete with Barbie, her 2 puppies and a fabulous water park for them all to enjoy.

I have to admit my first thought was, “Great, my floors are going to get soaked” it’s not that this is a massive toy that holds a great deal of water, it’s just that my daughter always seems to soak her entire surroundings if she doesn’t play with this kind of thing in the bathroom! Well, I need not have worried as when she wasn’t stuck in the bath playing with this for hours on end while wrinkling up like a prawn, Alice laid down her big beach towel on the floor and just about managed not to soak a thing!

Alice’s thoughts

Alice told me she really likes her new Barbie and puppies when asked what things made it great she stated that the waterslide was lots of fun and she wishes she could ride one the same in real life (looks like we’ll be heading to the swimming baths following Christmas)! Other things she commented on was Barbie’s lovely swim wear and all the accessories that come with it.
Alice gave it a 4 star rating out of the possible 5

Parental perspective

The set includes a fair bit so isn’t badly priced, the doll is nicely made and doesn’t feel cheap and plastic. Alice-Sara is forever taking her Barbies in the bath and sometimes we end up with a good 20 Barbies draining in the sink following her bath time so this was a good edition. I’m pleased Alice likes this set as I often worry that she’s going to lose interest in dolls, she’s 8 years of age and will be 9 next month, yet at the moment fashion dolls such as Barbie, Moxie and her all time favourite “Monsters high” all seem to remain at the top of her wish list.

From a parents perspective I award this one with 4 stars.

Barbie Puppy water park playset is priced at £24.99 but can currently be purchased from Argos at a reduced price of £22.49.

Lastly, a huge thank you to Argos for being a fantastic brand to work with this year.

Merry Christmas to everyone

Win Peppa pigs brand new DVD title

16 Oct

This week’s been all about the pig…

At the start of the week we received a copy of Peppa pig international day to carry out a review. Harley is a massive Bob the builder fan and his been watching Bob pretty much every day, so it was nice when he agreed to watch a little Peppa.

On the very next day I received an email from the very lovely Romanian mum offering me a lovely little gift… Well, Little is the wrong word, It wasn’t a little gift at all, it was actually a family ticket for four for the Peppa pig live treasure hunt  show at the Gi in Guilford this pass Friday.

Romanian mum had won the tickets from another lovely blogger but wasn’t able to attend due to work comitments. I felt quite humbled that she had thought of me and wish to publicly thank her for here kindness here on my blog!

THANK YOU ROMANIAN MUM  YOU’RE AWESOME.

I took Harley my 22 month old along with my sister and her daughter who is just ten weeks younger than Harley. Wow, They loved it and Harley danced to all songs and bless him, he even copied the actions.

So by the time I left the Gi and traveled on the train back to southeast London I was all Peppa-ed  Out.

I, however could only speak for myself as Harley had only just began! He disappeared upstairs only to appear with a Peppa DVD along with the statement,

“Peppa on… mummy”…

As lovely as Peppa is, I actually fell asleep while it was playing only to wake the next morning with an elbow wedged in my side.

Since Friday I’ve heard Peppa as background noise as its been spinning in the DVD player non stop so my guess is Harley thinks its great DVD.

(and so did I the first, second and maybe even third time! A tad bored by the fifth I think, :))

Nevertheless regardless of the toddler wearing the hell out off it, the new “Peppa pig international day” DVD is a fab collection of episodes that are sure to put a smile on the faces of all little Peppa fans.

Here’s a bit of info on the latest title added to the Peppa DVD collection.

Win a Mommy I’m here teddy bear child locator

2 Aug

A round a month back I published a post sharing a review of a fantastic product, “The Mommy I’m here, Child Locator” I tested this awesome product that came in the design of a teddy bear that could be attached to a child’s belt or shoe, and was blown away by it!

 The post was titled:

‘Revolutionary device designed to keep children from wandering could benefit families of children with autism’

I had quite a few parents discuss the product review with me via twitter and Facebook, showing a real interest in how it works and some asked, “Was it as good as I made out?” The review was completely honest, I love the Locator and continue to use it on my 20 month old toddler.

I’ve heard to many devastating stories of children getting lost, injured and some even losing their young lives, due to them wandering out off sight. These stories seem to involve very young children (pre-school age) and those with special needs (a lot of the time autism)

The wonderful creators of Mummy I’m here child locators are letting me run a competition to give one of these locators away… I’m frilled as this is a product that can potentially prevent a tragedy.
