A somewhat weird Halloween

2 Nov

Yesterday was Halloween, and in all honesty it was a bit of a weird one.

Alice-Sara returned to school following the half-term  Little man didn’t return in till today. Nonetheless, I wasn’t having him remain in bed all day and he did finally get up after much debate & a pretty standard meltdown!

After giving the kids some breakfast, my youngest took a mid-morning nap which surprised me as he hasn’t done this for quite some time, however, with the bubba asleep and little man refusing to budge from in front of the television to let me watch some ‘This Morning’ I decided to sneak upstairs and indulge in a little twitter before catching up on some reviews (though it’s not like there wasn’t more practical things I should have been doing like, de-cluttering my wardrobe). Oh yes, the lack of wardrobe space I can no longer ignore, as much as I hate getting rid of any of my clothing some of it has to go (with the exception of footwear) that’s a big NO, NO.

Later I needed to head of to the doctor’s surgery to pick up the Little man’s prescription for his Melatonin, which has been change to a different brand as a result of the National health cuts. This basically means, he will now take a brand of Melatonin called ‘Circadian’ given in the form of a tablet, instead of the capsules he was on before. I had also raised concerns with the Doctor as the melatonin seemed to be wearing of quite quickly (or not working at all) The new medication is a prolonged release and can you believe it, I woke up this morning only to realise that Little man hasn’t woken all night not once! ‘Please God let this continue!’ This was the first time I have slept all night in… I don’t know how long!

I also had to see the Doctor who was strangely dressed as a vampire in the spirit of the Halloween. “Um… Yes, this was a pretty strange experience given I was there to talk about my need to change contraception”! This wasn’t something I saw myself doing when I woke up that morning, discussing my women’s business with a blood sucking vampire with fake blood running down his chin!

Next stop was the local chemist to exchange my prescription for something that would get the Little man some much-needed kip. This was just as weird given I was served by a teenager in a cat suit who wore the most freakish set of contact lenses I’ve ever come across (completely white with a little black pin dot in place of a pupil)!

The next stop would be my mothers to collect the children, as I walked the short distance I was passed by cute little one’s dressed in adorable costumes, trick or treating with their parents. I also passed the local yobs egging the bus then running away from the neighbour hood patrollers, “It’s all found and games where I live”!

Just when I thought things couldn’t get any wackier, as I approached my mothers turning, I noticed some random middle-aged guy rolled in a ball laying on the pavement This man was either trying to save a parking space for the wife, or maybe even dead, I wasn’t sure! Well, me being the tit that I can be, “Occasionally” decided to be a  good citizen by asking him, “Excuse me, are you dead” “Come on… if he was, I wasn’t going to get an answer was I !” Sometimes I ask the most stupid questions, but I blame it on having kids 🙂 Well, the good news is, he wasn’t dead, just as pissed as a fart, I did try to warn him it would be an idea if he moved on, (not that he was bothering me, I could just see him getting egged by the rotten lot at the bottom of the hill). He mumbled and then went back to sleep. I tried, but had kids to collect, so went on my way.

Once at my mothers I told my little sister what I had witnessed, it was only then I discovered he had been there some 3 hours before, as my sister  had seen him when collecting my daughter from school! She informed me that some local people who live in the houses near where he was laying, had tried getting him up but he wasn’t having any off it! With that I called the guys in blue, and expressed my concern. No one deserves to be left In that state no matter if it’s self inflicted or otherwise. Well, someone had to move him!

I left my mothers an hour and a half later to see the blue light only just approaching. The poor drunken dude was still laying there on the ground only now he was covered in eggs from his head down to his toes, good job the police were there at last, otherwise I fear he may have been eaten by a hungry fox or two.

It had been an eventful evening, the trip to the surgery had saved me from an evening of “Trick or treat” my sister took them instead, though I felt no guilt when tucking into their sweets when they were sleeping,! They had so many I was sure they would never notice, of course Little man proved me wrong with the screaming and shouting this morning! I’m sure the neighbours came to the conclusion that I had done a lot more than pinched a few celebrations and a packet of mix-up when he branded me a big fat thief, “Nice, I know!”

So… That was our Halloween, a tad strange and one I wont forget in a hurry. Honestly, I’ll never look at that doctor the same way again!

Well, here’s a belated Happy Halloween from ‘A boy with Aspergers’ we hope you had a spook-taculer time!

Why I organised a Lewisham riot clean up

16 Aug

The Great british public wave their flags and sing the national anthem during an exciting world cup football match.

Many feel proud to be British when our good troops leave for war in Afghanistan.

Many Brits celebrated the long extended weekend of the Royal wedding by getting drunk and partying their arse off at one of the many street parties.

The above are all prime examples of how Brits come together to celebrate and display their British roots.

This was a nation that came together when the horrific scenes of flying debris and screaming, hysterical London commuters hit our television screens on the 07/07/2005. Yes, a time where most descended into a nation of morning when the life’s of 52 people were so crawly claimed by the London terrorist attack that Simultaneously injured another 700 people in the explosions on three London underground trains and one London Double Decker bus.

We, were a nation that stood united, these in our society didn’t choose to go looting for top of the range computer games and trainers. Plasma TVs remained safely fixed upon the walls in which they belonged.

A heart-breaking, soul-destroying turn of events that left our nation and the rest of the world in bits is an example of how the British come together in times of dismay.

Yet, here we are that very same nation, with very different morals.

Our country was put on alert for a possible terrorist attack, we were deemed, high risk!

We would need to see action, plans brought to the table so to speak! Yet, what was about to commence was a very different turn of events! With the man who has been grunted the power to run our country indulging on a holiday, to which I’m purely guessing was some place hot, expensive and free from suspected terrorist alerts, and that of our lovely London mayor on the missing too (another lucky man on holiday, maybe he joined the PM) I for one couldn’t even contemplate taking such a threat seriously, how could I if the PM was sunning himself aboard?

Well, given our history, I assumed that the great British public would come together as one, as they had always done so! We would get each-other through it, what ever happened.

Then something happen… Buildings were douched in petrol or alcohol, quickly converted into an inferno of fierce red flames that took their grip letting of thick black smoke that rose into the skies of London causing a fog of darkness! Cars were burnt on the roadside, high street shop windows broken, debris covering the streets like a huge blanket.

Though this wasn’t a terror attack, this was something else all together! The London riots were a result of our own people, young and old, black and white. Yes, there may have been reasons for the Tottenham riots but we were now seeing behaviours of such disgust for no other reasons than pure yobbery and greed. Peoples homes, business and vehicles set a blaze for what? What did it prove, what was gained from it? Many parts of the country now display an array of boards that replace windows, some were replaced that same day, others remain the same as the cost for replacements can’t be met.

I try to teach my children never to steal, yet they have now been showed that despite it being such a bad thing to engage in, many will steal and in such a violent and disrespectful way! It just doesn’t help when the police can be seen watching but not intervening through no fault of their own but those who gave such instructions . The supermarket across the road from our house was being looted from 10.pm till 6. am  in the morning and this caused all three children to get very little sleep, due to not only the noise but the sheer fear of what was happening around them.

Such behaviours displayed by rioters are scary, many young children felt fear as the riots went full swing, yet there are some children that didn’t feel this way as some as young as 11 if not younger, were reported to be rioting and looting, some seen in the papers with supermarket baskets hung from the handle bars of their little BMX bikes. Little man didn’t cope well with the horror that was unfolding on our tv sets and outside our very door. His anxiety levels are already high and this just added to it. I tried to keep him from hearing too much, in-order to protect him, however as his mother I knew I couldn’t keep him from hearing the horrors that are taking place in the world he lives in! He sees things on the TV and can easily get hold of a newspaper. He maybe on the spectrum but he has Aspergers and is pretty intelligent but sadly highly anxious.

My Little man also has a range of sensory processing difficulties. He can’t drowned out background noise like some can, certain sounds can interfere with his mental well-being, causing him stress and even pain. During  day three of the riots that were taking place in south London Lewisham, as they were many other areas across the country, we saw our local supermarket being looted throughout the duration of the night. Little man didn’t only have difficulties disconnecting his mind from the fears of the events he had seen or read about, but worse was his inability to filter out certain sounds so when the supermarket was looted the noise that was caused by the store security alarm drove him absolutely insane to the point of angry over exhausted sobs.

I spent most of the early hours venting my anger on Twitter, (followers were great support, managing to keep me from the blink of madness). It was while on Twitter I noticed the Twitter hash tag, ‘#riotcleanup’ I noticed that my area was lacking support so I decided to struck up some kind of group made up of volunteers for a Lewisham cleanup. I used the hash tag #lewishamriotcleanup and set of on a mini mission all alone.

To be 100% honest I don’t know what I was expecting to come of it. In a way I didn’t expect anybody to listen to me to the degree that they did. I really did think, deep down that I’d be lucky to get a few re-tweets maybe the whole of the Local community were asleep in bed, (well, those not rioting and looting) given it was at least 3am when I first embanked on the riot clean up campaign. Yet, I should have known better that myself and little man would not be the only ones being kept awake by shouting, fighting, banging, smashing glass or even that of annoying store alarms that were set of throughout the entire night, ” Oh yes, the alarm was going off from 10 p.m. till around 6.30 am when the greedy takers had stopped taking, correction… I mean stealing!

I put my iPhone on the bedside table and tried to clam the little man down who was now sobbing on my pillows (all three children were in my bed) I then sat by the bedroom window watching the looters using trolleys to carry their “freebies” The looters no longer ran as they had done some six hours earlier, they now strolled  taking their time! It looked as through it was a normal thing to do, anyone would think these guys were shopping at a 24hr supermarket, not robbing one that closed at 9.pm the night before. With not a police officer In sight except for the odd blue light driving right past the free for all, you can almost understand why some went back for seconds and thirds having filled their get away cars to the very rim.

London and beyond was now becoming a burning inferno of terror. With the Government cutting back police the country didn’t stand a hope in hell, nor did the policemen that I saw being kicked and punched all over the papers on Tuesday morning.

It was crazy when I re-checked my twitter stream, what had happened during the half an hour period of me being away was a little surreal. I had loads of new followers who were now also using the tag #lewishamriotcleanup. With many agreeing to meet with me at the Lewisham shopping centre at 9.am.

The whole idea behind the cleanup was based on more than “Cleaning” My mother works for the council so I knew most had started early on a mission to clean the streets! My mission was to help those business who would show up at work in a few hours time to find the devastating mess and bill left by rioters and looters. Even if it meant sweeping glass, making tea, or just showing support, while showing others that we’re not all bad eggs, some of use stayed in our houses choosing not to rob our local high street shops. This went for the bigger companies too, (through we knew that it was the smaller retailers who would suffer most) that’s why we targeted lots of support to those smaller independent business.

I decided to start getting ready for my mission but before I did I went through the many messages and mentions on my Twitter to establish if I would actually be doing this alone, despite  the support forming in cyberspace I wondered if when it came to it, would anyone show up at 9.am? It was only then that I saw a message from BBCs London the breakfast show requesting a live radio interview 15 minutes before my planed meet up. My heart was beating at a rate so fast I felt it in my feet, I said yes only to hold the nerves in the Pit of my stomach for the next few hours. Everything kept moving on at a rate that was hard to keep up with, (highlighting the power of social media in a good way). Next thing I knew I was dressed, the children’s father arrived to look after the children (all except little man who begged to come and help) We both set off towards Lewisham town centre “which had seen some awful riots these past few nights and days, along with the surrounding areas such as Lee and Catford.” It was in the taxi I did my live interview for BBC radio which luckily went swimmingly. Once out the taxi I noticed no one except on lady looking lost. This was our first fellow riot clean up volunteer. The group grew to around twenty, others came to wish us luck! I was more than shocked to discover a BBC news reporter was there who interviewed both myself and little man and some of the others. A member of the Lewisham refuge team came to inform us that all was in hand and we were not needed! I wanted to work with the council not against. We spit up and set off in small groups towards Catford High Street. I met fellow volunteers along the way and also discovered that more had turned up outside the shopping centre and would now set upon the mission within different areas of the borough. My small group had the pleasure of having the BBC reporter and later camera crew by our side the whole time, though this felt a little crazy. I did a good few interviews with her which were aired on the BBC London news at 6.30 that same evening. The report was quite a long report that also saw little man being interviewed. The reporter herself was lovely and really supportive off what we were doing making it that much easier. I also done a string of online and radio interviews throughout the day via my mobile phone, Yes, I did really say, “Lewisham was cleaner then usual”  it was true and just needed to be said  I tweeted what and were we were going and meet some fellow tweeters along the way.

Little man felt quite angry at the whole riot business, especially as his beloved London buses had been targeted (except this time it wasn’t a terrorist attack)

A few of the Lewisham Riot Clean up crew

One of the fellow clean up crew was a lovely young girl of 16 years who proved that not all youths are looting JD spots, some are actually cleaning it up. Yes, right at the end of the day we discovered the huge amount of smashed up glass that had been left dangerously over the pavement in front of the shop. I was so proud of little man and by taking him out there with me I hoped to show him that there was still good people in the world, and I think I achieved that.

How could they hurt my little boy

23 Mar

Sunday was a day that my little man is likely to remember for years to come!

Sadly this is not because yesterday was a special day, it wasn’t his birthday, he didn’t attend an exciting event or take part in a fun-filled activity!

No he was assaulted by teenage boys while at the local park with his friend and friends mother!

Now do you understand why he will remember yesterday for years to come?

I didn’t expect the loud knock at my front door! You see my daughter was with my mother who had taken her out for the day, Little man was at the park with our neighbour and her son (little man’s one true friend), having left the door a jar while I was upstairs with my 15 month old I knew the children would just walk in without knocking if they were to return! I didn’t expect anyone else that Sunday afternoon. I instantly knew I didn’t know the person stood on the other-side of my front door without even having opened it! Whoever was there was knocking on the glass window pane in the door instead of using the knocker.

Opening the door my face fell, stood before me was a blonde woman dressed in a police uniform. A thousand things flashed through my mind at once and before anything more was said I already felt like throwing up. No one wants to see a copper stood at their door. The police woman asked, “does a Giovanni Sarcone live at this address?”

Of course my first thought was that they are looking for his father given little man has his fathers name it seemed more likely as what would they won’t with my ten year old boy? When I stated no the police lady rose her brow and displayed an expression of confusion across her face. She then said, ” the child has claimed this to be his address!” My knees wobbled beneath me, I must have turned a ghostly shade of White as she asked me if I felt OK. I explained that I thought they were referring to little man’s father who has the same name, but lives a few roads down with his mother. I then felt my head spin as I asked where my son was?

The police woman who was very nice explain that my son was still at the local park with his friend and his mother, he was safe and would be back shortly. At this point I felt a gush of relief, but she then went on to tell me that an incident had occurred and unfortunately my son had been assaulted by teenage boys.

I felt numb and sick with shock, turns out my ten year old had been playing with his friend and another little boy. As many may know little man doesn’t have the greatest play skills. He was playing police which mainly consists of a lot of shouting on his part. Some older boys around his own age came over and requested that little man didn’t play with their brother anymore. Little man was confused and asked why? the boys told him because he was Ginger and talked funny! Little man told them that he didn’t speak as funny as them and he hated their Irish accent as they spoke like Mr Xxxxxx who is his old primary school head teacher who he dislikes a great deal. They continued to bully him which lead him to call them a name containing a swear word.

This resulted in the boys leaving the park only to come back with their even older brothers. These were teenagers who were at least eighteen years old. One walked towards my son with a stick as if he was going to hit him with it. The stick was dropped on the ground as the teenage boy decided to punch my son in his stomach instead. He punched my son four or five times, this eighteen year old boy hurt my baby, my ‘ten year old baby’

The police woman told me his friends mum had ran over and grabbed my son and tried to get him into her car in a bid to get him to safety. A member of the public (a young guy) witnessed what was taking place and set chase after the Yobs as they run off. This guy also called 999 resulting in the police arriving at the scene very quickly. It was said ‘by his friend’ that the boy hit him four or five times in the stomach, he said my son didn’t flinch, just stood there making a clicking sound with his tongue.

When the incident was over and the police were on site it was only then little man had a meltdown! However this was not over the fact he had just been punched by a eighteen year old lad while a large number of his mates egged him on, but due to the police wanting to talk with him. He started screaming “please don’t arrest me, please” while crying and trying to get away from the police woman. After some time she Managed to calm him down she then asked him his name and radioed through his details. It was only then she established he had Aspergers. Lucky for us this was on file as he had wondered off age 7 where he put himself on the 202 bus (buses being his special interest) after we explained to the police our son could possibly be on a bus they radioed through to the bus company where they made contact with every bus driver in the southeast London area. Within ten minutes the police had a sighting of my son on the 202 bus one of his favorites.

The police woman told me if his AS hadn’t been on file then they would of been concerned with his reaction to them. She also stated that he refused to be touched or show the police officers his stomach. She said he wouldn’t let them bring him back requesting his friends mother return him in her car. I highlighted the fact he looked like an everyday normal boy and that to most his autism could not be seen, with some just assuming his a little ‘odd’ to which the police officer agreed. She advised my son and neighbour to call the police if they returned. However there wasn’t much more they could do what with little man’s dislike towards the police it would be hard to catch and charge them.

Of course I was livid. I was in a state of shock which quickly turned to anger and worry. When she had left I sat on the stairs with my head in my hands and just cried till I could cry no more. When little man returned he wouldn’t really discuss it, he claimed it didn’t hurt so doesn’t matter. He later told me that he was very scared at the time but just wants to forget it now. I just don’t think it’s gonna be that easy. I’m already overcautious when it comes to him going out without me, now I feel to never let him out my sight again.

Since the incident Little man has been acting as a very angry child and yesterday he had a meltdown at the supermarket where he punched me in my side. I don’t know if he understands the seriousness of what happened. I’m in a state of bafflement at how these teenagers think it’s Ok to do such a thing to a ten year old with or without autism/special needs.

Right now I’m very unsure what to do. The police catching the low life scum that done this seems pretty unlikely. I know two wrongs don’t make a right but right now, if given the chance I would love to lay a few punches of my own into the stomaches of the scum bags that hurt my son and see just how they like that!

Rock on PC Bolton

28 Oct

My great mate Donna Jordan has wrote this fantastic guest post that contains some wonderful news.

ROCK ON PC BOLTON

PC Cliff Bolton (a Bexley policeman who’s part of the Blendon + Penhill Safer Neighbourhoods team) had a lucky escape today . . . . . . .because if I’d seen him today I’d have grabbed him, squeezed him hard + planted a big wet kiss on his mush !! Now I’m not in the habit of assaulting, sexually or otherwise, police officers (ok, I did once do a Jackie Chan slap, kick, punch on a female officer but she had just taken my lovely chocolate gateau off me because it was “evidence” . . . .but thats another story + since it all took place in a dream I once had it doesn’t count) but sometimes actions speak louder than words and “well done matey!” just wouldn’t cut it.
The reason for this over display of gratitude + affection ? Well I’ve never felt genuine admiration for any officer in the Met before ( apart from the police dogs + horses but are they officers? Thats another question for another day) + its never entered my abyss ( thats what I affectionately call my mind) to put pen to paper + sing the praises of a POLICE OFFICER but in the case of PC Cliff Bolton I just had to spread that warm, fuzzy feeling I got in my tummy after hearing about his pioneering work in the Met. You see PC Bolton is that exception that proves the rule – he is a police officer that thinks out of the box. PC Bolton was alert enough to notice that a significant number of the youths arrested for anti-social behaviour had Autisim Spectrum Disorders + he also knew the majority of his fellow officers had little, if any, awareness of ASD . . . .was there a link? Using his initiative he set about educating his colleagues on/about ASD in the hope that this new awareness would help reduce incidents + assaults on officers.
Today PC Bolton runs autisim awareness sessions for Met officers + is responsible for Autisim awareness becoming part of the Met Police Training (he also has an online special group on Aware). He well deserves the award he recieved in recognition of being the pioneer of autisim awareness in the Met. . . . . . . . .all I have to say is WELL DONE MATEY MWAH !!!!!!!

THREE SICK BULLIES TORTURE TEEN WITH ASPERGERS, AND GET AWAY WITH IT!

17 Oct

Reading the news often makes me feel utterly sick and feels me with total terror, so I do try to avoid it as often as seemingly possible. But its everywhere you don’t even need to tune into a news station on the television or radio, pick up a paper or search the internet, because networks such as the all to popular Twitter and good old Facebook have become news broadcasters in their own right. It’s considered a fact that these social networking sites give us the news before its even aired on the national news! More then likely before the journalist has even got his foot through the door of the all to often “Crime Scene” So I guess the term “Seemingly Possible” was a draft dizzy expression to make!

So yesterday I’m trolling through my Facebook, like to many of us do! Only to come across a disgusting, stomach wrenching news-feed updated by one of my favourite pages “The National Autistic Society!” The, Headline reads:

“This week, three men who brutally attacked a 17 year-old with Asperger syndrome were let off with just 80 hours of community service.”

Clicking on the link provided I found myself faced with total shock horror. This countries justice system was truly confirmed the joke we all suspected it to be. Believe me, I’m not just ranting because this boy who was so brutally attacked in a sickening three day ordeal was on the autism spectrum (Though yes this is a major part of it!) But I would also rant if the person subjected to this degree of torture was what societies describes as, “Neurotypical” However this crime was inflicted on a person who was vulnerable and “disabled” Making this one ghastly disability hate crime!

” WARNING! LEAVE NOW IF YOU DON’T WISH TO READ JUST HOW HORRIFIC THIS ATTACK ACTUALLY WAS!”

The three sick & twisted criminals known as Jack Bolton, Andrew Griffin, and Nathan Marshall, all 18 years of age, from Manchester (uk) & known to the police, subjected their 17 year old autistic terrified victim through an unendurable attack, why filming it on their mobile phones. They filmed themselves proudly torturing their teenager victim. The victim who has a diagnosis of Aspergers (a form of autism) was treated in such an inhuman way that it is a total disbelieve that they were not sent to jail to rot. The Scumful three pelted their victim with dog mess, scratched his limbs with sandpaper, kicked and jumped on his head, beat him with a tennis racket and then forced him to drink vodka and gin until he passed out. A National Newspaper The Daily Mail wrote:

Mobile phone footage showed the yobs laughing and joking as they made him endure other abuse and, in a final humiliating assault, they applied adhesive tape to his genital area before ripping the tape off.

It is in my opinion that after reading this story, posted by the Daily Mail and the National Autistic Society’s Facebook page “Judge Jonathan Geake” who imposed this despicable insulting “so called sentence” of  three-month curfews and ordered them to carry out 80 hours’ unpaid community work as ‘an intensive alternative to custody’ is a prime example of  what our justice system is today. “AN UTTER JOKE!”

The victim will live with this horrid disturbing attack for the rest of his live. My guess is he has been left with no confidence or trust in the human race. Instead he is left with just a body crippled by fear. How will this teenage boy ever live a full and independent life now? Yet these beast are allowed to roam our streets, serving a mere 80hrs community service. 80hrs is just a little over three days. Is it bad enough they were not sent to rot in their cell but instead be given a sentence of painting youth clubs or even worse maybe in our schools amongst  our vulnerable children some likely with Aspergers the same condition as their victim! Yet this so called community service order, that is an insult to the word punishment is for a period not even totally four days in total! (If added together that is.) Gosh I give my children a harder punishment for fighting with one another. I’m not stating I know what and where such community service will be served! I’m merely stating that we as a nation see it all to bloody often. Giving something back to the community! Is a term used all to often within our failing justice system. “Yer right” Are they planing to give that young victim his life back? Give him the confidence to go out and meet people, walk the streets free from fear of unprovoked attacks from monsters like these scum-bag offenders? “NO, I THOUGHT NOT!”

The Daily mail online state that Senior police officers and an MP have branded Judge Jonathan Geake sentence “a joke” and like the National Autistic Society, have called for the sentence to be reviewed. The National Autistic Society has launched a campaign where you can get involved. By clicking on the link The national autistic society above, you can tell Judge Jonathan Geake just how wrong he got it! Or visit The Daily Mail Online for the full story including the mug-shots of these low life scum bags who are free to roam our streets and a picture of the “wonderful” Judge him self Jonathan Geake.
