7×7 My Favourite blog post’s

25 Feb

I was recently tagged by the lovely Jennifer, an awesome talented blogger, who blogs over at Jbmumofone to give you my 7×7 low down.

First I must share the seven top blog posts, I’ve read over the last week (please bear in mind this has sat unpublished a good week, due to careers brain)!

Next, I’m to share 7 things about me that you don’t know already (if that’s actually possible)!

Lastly, I’m to share the meme love and tag another blogger, who hopefully isn’t already tagged (if I’m lucky)!

Ok… here it goes… the seven blog post I’ve enjoyed this week!

1) Kate Vyktorian wrote about her amazing experience as an attendee at the Elle Style Awards 2012, over on her blog Snugglebubbly. Yes, this jammy blogger bagged herself a ticket to this celeb fest as a result of her recreation of a red carpet look, with the use of items from the Next directory… Lucky girl!

2) Lexy from Mammywoo in her emotional, yet inspiring post, ‘Forgiveness with extra cheese

3) Angela, a talented new mummy blogger wrote a beautiful post of love, dedicated to her 9-year-old son, in the post, ‘A letter to my loved one’s – Part one

4) Autism Mums & Dads is a brand new blog displaying some talented, inspiring words. I read the post, “Everything but the kitchen sink” and had to share!

5) From Fun to Mum, the funniest post I’ve read all yet, let alone week. If you haven’t read, “The Day That Shit Happened” I’d run off and read it now!

6) Bluecrisps, a fellow parent to a child with autism wrote the post, “Does this buggy cause offence” when speaking how our societies ignorance get going when she takes here daughter out and about in her special needs buggy. It’s a strong message from an empowering parent of a child with a hidden disability.

and finally…

7) “Missing my Grandad” a beautiful post written by “a mummy too” as her weekly gallery post. Filled with emotion and love, it’s a really lovely piece.

Next: Seven things you may not already know about me!

  1. I hate eggs, any type but the chocolate type
  2. As well as my love for writing, I spend time drawing and painting too.
  3. I own so many shoes, that they need their own wardrobe
  4. I did plastering and brick-laying at college and passed my first and only exams on the two subjects (no bloke tells me it’s a man’s job)!
  5. I laugh when Nervous
  6. I’m rubbish at icing fairy cakes
  7. I’ve been in a relationship for 15 years and I’m only 29 years old… Goodness me!
  8. Lastly, I tag

The lovely Kylie Hodges over at “Not even a bag of sugar” to list her 7×7

Questions & Answers

20 Feb

I was recently tagged by the lovely Kate over at “Kate on thin Ice” to answer 11 questions, before writing my own 11 questions and tagging some more lovely bloggers. Below are my answers to Kate’s questions

1. If you could wave a magic wand and change one thing about mums, what would it be and why? As a mother to a child on the autism spectrum as well as two other children, I’d wave my wand, in the hope of removing the ignorance towards mothers of children with autism, an ignorance that far to many of our society display today. Although I’ve become accustomed to the stares, looks of horror on the faces of my fellow shoppers, during one of Little man’s supermarket style meltdowns, to such an extent it doesn’t affect me as it once did! I’d still make it magically better if I could, especially for those parents new to this difficult, yet highly rewarding challenge of parenting a child with a hidden disability!

2. How many hours or minutes of housework do you do per day? However many time will permit! I have to admit, their father is a dab hand with the vacuum cleaner, I’m more of a sorter (you know, separating the lights and, darks for the wash, embarking on a mission to pair together socks, organising the cupboards and dealing with the bills)!

3. If you could change careers, what would you change to? Well, right now my career is taking care of my children. Little man is now in an independent special school more suited to his needs, my daughter continues to do great in school, while my youngest Harley who has just turned 2 is entertained by myself during the day. I do however volunteer helping parents of children with autism to get their child’s special educational needs met in way of a statement of SEN. I help when the LEA has turned down the request to assess or when the end of the assessment results in the failure to issue a statement and the parents are taking the route of the tribunal. The training I did was awesome and my very high pass marks were a result of my desire to help other families (especially as I’ve gone through the whole procedure with the extra addition of a disability discrimination claim I had filed against his “then”  mainstream, primary school… to which the school later backed down on, resulting in us coming to a settlement and an apology given to my son, one I had been waiting for, for what felt like forever).

Although Ive developed a strong interest to issues surrounding Education Law, and also that of child psychology and mental health, I now see myself changing directions and have considered doing something that involves me working for myself therefore giving me flexibility which I need having three children, one with additional needs! Yes, I have some ideas, though I’d rather not say anything just yet (watch this space)!

4. What is your favourite cocktail? Has to be a Mojito though it’s not often I drink, well, apart from the odd class of white here and there!

5. What is your claim to fame? Being me, surly… someone’s got to notice me sometime soon! Serious through, I do have a bit of a big mouth, so thought, why not exercise it in a productive manner! You see, I’m considering becoming the stalker of the man who lives at number 10! I feel someone needs a word with him before the country finally crumbles and disappears! Why not me? I’m sure that will do something for both our public profiles 🙂

6. What is the quirkiest object in your home? My son of course, his so very quirky but in the greatest possible way! Would I change this quirkiness? Hell no! Its part of who he is, plus I think quirky is very much all the rage at the minute!

7. Charity Shop Or Designer Boutique? As much as I love a Designer Boutique, which I normally only get to see from the outside these days…  A good Charity shop, wins every time. I love the whole excitement that comes with finding that unique item, the discovery of a beautiful find, marked up at a bargain of a prize! I go to some lovely charity shops and have been known to make a day out of it with a friend! Jumping in her car, we will drive some distance just to find them hidden little gems in tiny villages, or well sought after locations. Yes, I’ve had my fair share of magpie finds, one of my most recent, a real pair of women’s Ray bands in the children’s brick and brac box! How much?… A tiny 20p

8. How many hours of the day are you away from your own house? These days, not many! When Little man was in mainstream though I did seem to spend more time in his school then he probably did! The problem now is, you try to get the things done, that you can’t with all three at home, before you know it, its afternoon, leaving little time for the walk in the park you had planned with your toddler.

9. What is your guilty pleasure? Twitter & pinterest while sipping something chilled from the fridge and munching on a Lindor egg (you know… the red ones the size of a creme egg but with a far better centre)!

10. Retro or Modern? Both, though Retro in the home is a big hit with me right now! I love the vintage floral looks, pale pastel shades inspired from the 40s and 50s… I’m dead girlie, love shabby chick, classic and pretty vintage finds. I’m currently redecorating my bedroom, though at this moment it’s an overcrowded space, with bare walls! I want to ensure I have everything I need, to create that dreamy creation in my mind, and think I’m going to try to pin my way there on Pinterest.

11. What is the one challenge you are most proud of overcoming? This is likely to be the challenge to get my son’s special educational needs met, a statement of SEN, a place in a special school and of course a fight to prove my son was being discriminated against within his mainstream school. I hit some massive lows, cried many tears and in the earlier years of his life I even found myself on Prozac! Pre-diagnosis, I felt like I was screaming yet no one looked up. I was even taken to court for school attendance issues despite my child not sleeping of a night, having to be carried in the gate, massive meltdowns, so bad that even Supernanny could not have fixed them (she, was actually filming a family on my mothers road last summer and couldn’t get away quick enough when my Little man started throwing himself about and shouting some form of inappropriateness for the world to hear! I dare to think what she thought, though actually, now, I couldn’t give a hoot!

So here’s my 11 questions I want bloggers to answer!

1. How old was you when you gave birth to your first child & was this planned?

2. How did you feel both physically and mentally following the birth of your child, for example, how long before you felt yourself again, fitted in your old clothes, returned to work etc.?

3. Did you experience the “Baby Blues” or suffer postnatal depression? If yes, are you over this, slowly getting better, or maybe things are still quite hard?

4. What are your family values?

5. Are you a SAHM or a Working mother?

6. So, why did you start your blog?

7. Do you feel less isolated when blogging and interacting with other bloggers through social networking sites and if applicable, blogging events?

8. Are you going to Britmums Live and if yes… what are your reasons for wanting to attend? “waving hand in the air… I’ll be there”

9. As a blogger do you ever help the promotion of certain charitable organisations or engage in campaigns for a good course? If yes, what charities and why?

8. What’s the most amazing experience you and if applicable, your children, have experienced as the result of your blog?

9. Do you have a goal you want to achieve as a result of you’re blogging talent? Maybe it’s to write an E- Book, start an online business, start vlogging, or like me begin self hosting (I think I’ll be taking this leap in the early summer)?

10. Name one blogger who regularly inspires you

Finally…

11. What piece of advice would you offer to a new blogger or anyone considering starting a blog?

My First Gallery Post – Eyes

18 Jan

I’ve never joined in with the Gallery linky, but this week it was on the subject of “Eyes” and considering I love eyes, especially my children’s I just had to share and join in.

As you can see all my children have very different eyes. My youngest has big brown eyes, Little man has three colours in his eyes (wished I had a better picture, he never lets me take one)! Lastly my daughter has blue eyes. These pictures were from my iPhone so not great pics.

Here’s a pretty funky image of one of my own eyes.

Meme – My 2011 Highs and Lows

15 Jan

I was recently Tagged to complete this Meme, ‘My 2011 Highs & Lows by Kate on thin ice‘ by the lovely Romanian Mum, who is a lovely blogger that write a fantastic blog.

Not wanting to bail out and be a Meme bore, here’s my contribution that I hope you’ll all enjoy.

(1) What was your happiest event?

Watching my son in his school harvest festival assembly. He attends a special school and it’s been such a long time since his done anything of this kind as his mainstream school would never involve him in any plays or presentations. He did a reading but froze up, so all the other children came up and stood beside him and they all read the piece together, of course this made me cry proud and happy tears. Moments like these are totally priceless.

(2) What was the saddest thing that happened?

We lost my dad’s brother to cancer.

(3) What was the most unlikely thing to happen that actually went ahead and did?

I won most inspiring blogger at the Mad Blog Awards

(4) Who let you down?

I let myself down a number of times (we learn from our mistakes).

(5) Who supported you?

My friend Donna always supports me, also my mum.

(6) Tell us one thing you learned

Not to be so hard on myself and sometimes I’m my own worse enemy.

(7) Tell us one thing that made you laugh

Taking the P&O ferry with Romanian Mum and both trying to walk to the other side of the ship while feeling a tad sea sick, we looked like two drunk women, falling all over the place.

(8) Tell us one thing that made you cry

I cry a lot, I’m quite an emotional wreak at times. One occasion that comes to mind would be the time I lost my cool with Little man while at Butlins and I went running out the restaurant, where I then sat in the rain on a bench and uncontrollably sobbed.

(9) Tell us three things your child or children did to make you feel proud

I have three children so I’ll give you one for each!

Little man (aka A boy with Asperger’s) giving his last 50p from his pocket-money to a homeless person sat outside London Bridge Tube station.

Alice-Sara saving for charity (she has £12 so far) and started saving in December.

Harley my now 2-year-old, saying “I love you mummy”

(10) Tell us one thing that made you proud of yourself

 Winning my Mad blog award.

(11) Tell us one challenge you overcame

I over come a host of challenges every day, such as getting my son and myself through his public meltdowns in the middle of the supermarket.

(12) Tell us three things you would like to change about your life from 2011

Get fit, healthy and back in my size 8 jeans (I wasn’t that fit in 2011)!

Sleep better (which means trying to get Little man to do the same)!

To get stronger within myself, a lot stronger than I was in 2011!

Now… to tag some other fabulous bloggers to complete the Meme! Let’s just hope that somehow they haven’t been tagged already.

A-Z Of Me

28 Nov

OK, I was actually tagged to do this post entitled the ‘A-Z of me’ in  WAIT FOR IT… September! Yes, useless I know! I discovered I had been tagged by the fabulous & lovely Heidi  writer of the blog ‘Him, me & three’ via ttwitter! I checked out Heidi’s post, thought, “Great idea let’s get started” yet somehow got distracted, as you do! Only to be reminded some 2 or more months later when Mummybird (another lovely blogger) posted her A-Z of me after being tagged.  I do wish to add that I only discovered that mummybird had written the A-Z of me, due to her taste in men! “Mummybird if you are reading this…. KEEP YOUR MITTS OF ROBBIE, HIS MINE WOMAN, MINE…”

SO, my fashionably late article, just like it’s writer is finally live… Here is the A-Z of me!

Me in my festive get up.

Anorak… Do you have a sad side? I have a little bit of a stationary obsession and can’t help buying pens, diaries, note book, anything stationary really! I guess that is a tad sad isn’t it?

BODY…What physical attribute would you most like to change? What part wouldn’t I like to change should be the question! Seriously I want my pre-preggers body back, it was dead easy with the first two, not with Harley his almost 2 and I still can’t get back in my size 8s… Gutted, but working hard on a number of keep fit projects… Bring it on!

CELEBRITY…Which one would you most like to date and why? Robbie William’s  is a little bit of alrite isn’t he 🙂 but his now a taken man and I’m feeling pretty upset about that actually! Why would I like to date him? Do I really need to answer that? (Mummy bird, you really need to keep your eyes of my Robbie)

DEBUT …Tell us about your first ever blog post. What made you start blogging? I introduced myself, talked about Little mans autism and ranted about the system and how slow….. It was. I look back and think to myself how rather poor my blogging skills were back then, though it helps me to appreciate how far along my writing skills have developed! I may not be the best writer or have the top marks for grammar but I inject passion into what I write and I really hope that comes across to my readers!

ERROR …What’s been your biggest regret?  Not finishing school because eventually you have to do even more to get where you wanna be! Its better to work your arse of when you’re a youngster so you can rake in the benefits as early on as your twenties. Despite this, I do believe it doesn’t take an A level or even masters degree to make a success of your life!

FUNNY – who’s making you laugh? I think Lee Nelson is a very funny dude, its my childish side, I just can’t help but laugh at his Dr Bob and Faliraki Nights sketches! Also a big fan of Lee Evens and Russell Howard!

GRAND…If we gave you one right now what would you spend it on? If I’m honest I’d be dead tempted to get myself a new Macbook (currently have Mac air and though it’s stunning I need to move on!) I’d also quite like to get me mitts on a nice ipad 2! But what I want and what I get is two different things altogether! Yes… with three children & a Christmas list as long as my arm, plus the added addition of having a huge family network, I’d more than likely spend it on Christmas.

HOLIDAY… What’s your favourite destination? Greece (Island of Rhodos) I lived and worked there when I was just 17 years old, gosh they were the days! Don’t get me wrong, although I love my children more than life itself, I do miss them days of sun, sea, sand, fish bowls, cocktails and late nights (Oh, yer I guess I still get plenty of late nights, don’t I!)

IRRITATE… What’s your most annoying habit? The fact I keep using the word ‘Awesome’ God I don’t know where it came from, I don’t say it ever, just write it, why? I really don’t have a clue, I come across like some beach dude. AWESOME!!

JOKER…Whats your favourite joke {the one that makes you laugh everytime you hear it}? I saw a bloke Moonwalking in the street. He was really good so I went over to commend him on his silky Jackson moves. He said “Get lost smart arse, I’ve got dog s*** on my trainers” Well, I honestly laughed loudly as I sat on the bus when I read this in a text from my nutty mate! She sends me at least 5 great jokes a day!

KENNEL… Do you have any pets? Yes, I have two kittens, two very naughty kittens I might add.

LOVE…Are you single, married, engaged, living with a long-term partner? Live apart I have three kids already!

MEAL… Whats your ultimate starter, main and dessert? Italian Salad followed by a pasta dish of some sort and finished of with Cheese cake. A couple of bottles of white makes a cracking addition wouldn’t you agree?

NOW…If you could be anywhere right now where would you be and who with? I’d be in either in Greece or Italy with the children.

OFF DUTY…What do you do in your spare time? When I have some precious free timeI blog, blog & blog some more! When I’m not blogging I social network (Holds hands up, Yes I’m a twitter head) I also volunteer for NAS, catch up with friends and family and when the funds allow it… I shop!

PROUD MOMENTS …What are you most proud of? My three children, I’m proud how far Little man has come, and how his now embracing his Aspergers. I’m proud of my daughters ability to cope so well when things get tough, and the amazing developments my almost two-year old is making every single day, though I wish he would stay small forever, I really do!

QUEASY …What turns your stomach? Needles I loth them, I fear them, I run from them!!!

RELAX…How do you relax? Writing here on the blog while blasting music through my ipod, (It’s the only way I can process my thoughts, to drown out the background noise, which tends to reach high levels in my house. I also like to read, tweet with a glass of white and a naughty ciggy! I also love to get deep into some art, or tend to unwind shopping for shoes… One of life’s little pleasures!

SONG…Whats your favourite song of all time? I love music and listen to music more than I watch TV. I like far to many songs to choose just one, I also like a wide range of music from old skool garage, to a bit of Cold play.

TIME …If you could go back in time and relive it again, when would you choose? The last time I saw my Grandmother, If I knew it was going to be the last, I would have said a whole lot more, I would have been sure to tell her I loved her though I’m sure she knew, I would have still have liked to have said it that one last time!

UNKNOWN…Tell us something about yourself that no one else knows? That Nobody else knows? Your seriously crazy, that would be a secret and a serious one if I was the only one that knew! So… Forget it, I’m staying zipped!

VOCAL…. Who is your favourite artist? Really couldn’t say I have to many.

WORK….. What is your dream job, and are you doing it now?  Solicitor specialising in education law (no, I’m not doing it now)! I’d also like to write for living and own my own brand.

XRAY…Any broken bones? Just my little toe, the hospital didn’t need a xray to confirm.

YIKES…What’s been your most embarrassing moment? Realising my skirt was tucked in my knickers at school (sad thing was I only discovered this once I had walked through a crowded assembly hall) The red face of shame, I’ll never forget it!

ZOO…. If you were an animal, which one would you be? It’s got to be a chimp, cute but all so bloody cheeky.

I don’t have a clue who has been tagged already, what with this post being so…. late who bets I tag someone to do this A-Z, who has already done it? Looks certain I will doesn’t it!

Ok if you have done this then “whoops, I’m sorry!”  I tag…
