Is it a bird or a plane? No it’s A Flutterbye Fairy

13 Aug

Flutterbye fairies by Spinmaster toys are super cute dolls that just happen to have wings and fly.
Recommend for children aged 6+ Alice 10 couldn’t wait to see what they were all about.

Heres what Alice Said… “Firstly these fairies are really pretty, they have lovely hair and beautiful wings. I didn’t think they would fly like they do I thought they wouldn’t be that good! But mine flys really high and I can control it by guiding it with my hand. It’s actually really cleaver and a lot of fun.”

Alice was super impressed with her little flutterbye fairy and to be honest so was I. The spinning skirt is constructed from a soft material so even if it hits your beloved widescreen it won’t damage it! Well, it didn’t ours and it hit numerous times during her first attempts at fairy flying. One person who looked slightly unimpressed had to be dad when the fairy accidentally on purpose flew at his head at speed (I really should leave the flying to the kids… Evil laugh!).

The charging base is pretty simple to operate. The fairy charges reasonably fast and you get a good degree of flying time on a full charge. Yes, this does take a high number of batteries, six to be precise however, good quality batteries have lasted the test of time and we are still currently on the same batch we started with.

Alice is 10 and loves the flutterbye fairy I’m pretty impressed to at 31. The fairy is aimed at kids 6+ and I feel this is a good age. Once you get the hang of using the flutterbye its as easy as riding a bike so 6 year olds will fully enjoy the challenge and achievement when mastering their pretty little fairy.

We love it and therefore recommend it to others with confidence.

Review of the New Baby Annabell

29 Oct

We’ve had an awesome time putting together our first Christmas wish list as part of the Santa’s Little helpers feature. We have been extremely fortunate at how well its taken off, giving us great opportunities to work with some fantastic brands & retailers.

Now, I’m dead chuffed to announce, that Argos has become one of them fantastic retailers!

I was flattered when Argos complemented my blog and wanted to work with me. This is a retailer I have always used and remember my own mother doing so when I was a child.

It’s really fabulous working with such a big brand, who started by introducing me to their “Fab fifteen” (top 15 toys this christmas) which you have to admit, is a pretty amazing list.

Baby Annabell (age 3 +) £44.99

Next, the children got to test some of their toys.

One being the brand new ‘Baby Annabell’ much to my daughters delight. ‘Baby Annabell’ is featured in the ‘fab fifteen’ as one of the top 5 girls toys this Christmas.

Baby Annabell is made by ‘Zapf Creations’ and is a delightful interactive baby doll that comes complete with bottle and fluffy plush sheep.

This doll has so much more going for her than just looking cute. Her interactive features set her apart from your standard baby doll! Talk to baby Annabell and hear her realistic babble, make her happy and listen to her laugh and giggle. Give baby Annabell her bottle and hear her realistically sucking as she drinks. Once she’s had enough remove her bottle to hear her burp just like a real baby. When its time for Baby Annabell’s nap, gentle rock her back and forth giving her bottom a little tap, this will see her drift of to sleep! If your quite you’ll even hear her breathing.

Baby Annabell will wake in her own time, clam her down by gently talking to her as you cuddle.

If all of the above isn’t exciting enough, Baby Annabell also has realistic movements in both her head and arms.

Alice’s thoughts

Alice loves baby dolls and over the years she has collected many dolls. I explained to Alice how lucky she was to be sent a baby Annabell and when I gave her the new doll she agreed to give some of her others to St Christopher’s hospice, which made me very proud as my daughter hates to part with anything! This isn’t her being selfish, she couldn’t if she tried, she just finds it hard to part with things, even those that have only ever been played with a small handful of times.

Nonetheless, Alice has now filled a black sack full of baby dolls and the odd soft toy, and in exchange, is now happily enjoying her new Baby Annabell.

I’m sure I don’t need to explain further in regards to how much she loved it! I think the images included in this post pretty much do the talking for me, wouldn’t you agree?

5 stars *****

 Parental perspective

From a parents perspective, ‘Annabell’ may seem a tad over priced at £44.99, but I can honestly say I’ve paid double the amount for a doll that isn’t half as nice or has a lot fewer features.

Even if you don’t agree that’s fine as Argos currently have the New Baby Annabell on sale for £22.49 for a limited time only

I want my little girl to stay a little girl for as long a possible, that’s why I love seeing her play and interact with her baby dolls.

Baby Annabell is a very well made doll, from her outfit all the way down to her plush sheep. She’s interactive and moves her head and arms. She has a lot to offer any little girl who likes playing with a baby doll.

It’s a 4 **** from me, for the simple fact she’s well played with bring a huge smile to my daughters face, which is priceless.

Alice gets creative with fab effex

4 Sep

My daughter Alice-Sara had a lovely surprise this morning, let me explain!

Well, nine days ago I arrived home from shopping to discover a card sat on my mat from Royal Mail. Not expecting a parcel I had no idea what my lovely postmen had tried to fit through my letter box with little joy. The parcel had therefore been taken back to the sorting office for arranged collection. Having no idea what it was and having been madly busy, I didn’t have time to collect it till yesterday morning.

Well, to Alice-Sara’s delight the package that awaited us at the shorting office, was from Spinmaster.

Spinmaster are the makers of Air hogs, aqua sand, Zoobles and much more.

A few weeks back Alice-Sara reviewed one of Spinmasters  Zoobles and loved it so much, that she’s now acquired five more.

This time Alice-Sara would be reviewing FAB Effex a new craft material that is highly tactile and mouldable. The self sticking reusable material can be moulded into a number of different shapes, and can even be wrapped around pencils to create a twisted . effect

There are a number of kits in the range, Alice received the FAB effex fashion kit.

What you get!

150 FAB Effex pre-cut pieces

2 FAB Effex sheets

1 sticky square

3 Paper dolls with stands

I instruction guide

What we thought

Alice couldn’t wait to start, she got all the pieces out of the box and sorted them in to little piles. The pre-cut pieces were nice and bright, though they were a bit random and didn’t have all the correct colours/shapes to match the ones showed on the instructions.

If this was little mans review he would have been quite upset about this, what with his rigid thinking he would have insisted it was done the same as that displayed in the instruction booklet, thankful it wasn’t!

Alice got to work on her first doll. The instructions were not much help so, she followed what she could and used the power of her wonderful imagination to create some awesome designs.

The material is really great stuff to work with. It has a wax type backing that isn’t very sticky to the touch but sticks well to a number of different surfaces, really holding it’s shapes.

You can wrap the strips of FAB Effex around a pencil as to create a ringlet type curly effects, which Alice did for the hair on a few of her dolls. I was pretty impressed with how some hours later the effect had remained in place.

Alice-Sara loves to design outfits and then dress up dolls/models. She has a number of fashion design creations made from paper and card craft sets. Fab Effex was therefore a welcomed change as it gave Alice-Sara opportunities to try something new and a tad different from what she’s used too (Kinda taking her out her comfort zone)

Alice-Sara used the two additional sheets of material to cut out dresses and tops for the remaining two dolls opting to use these instead of the pre-cuts. What’s FAB about FAB Effex is that it’s reusable meaning you can undo and redo if any mistakes are made! This was a welcomed bonus as it saved us from a few diva moments I’m sure!

On the whole Spinmaster have come up with yet another fantastic idea, however the instruction’s supplied were a little disappointing (though the Fab effex website have much clearer and easier to follow instructions).

What Spinmaster now need to remember is, “Not everybody will have the internet available to them” despite the fact we are in the year 2011. We did found that the instructions were also laid out in a confusing fashion, what with the languages being all displayed to together, made it hard to read, and this would not work for a six year old, Alice-Sara is eight and struggled.

However, there are many positives! We loved how the pieces stuck and how they were easily moulded to shape. The colours and patterns were nice too.

It’s a great toy to help stimulate a child’s imagination. All pieces can be used to create a number of different craft projects and can be stuck to a range of different accessories such as, CD and DVD cases, twinklet boxes and more.

This Fab Effex kit can be brought for around £9.99

FAB Effex can  be brought from Amazon, Argos and beyond!
