My Epic Adventure

28 Jan

I’ve just discovered the MoneySupermarket competition and thought it would be cool to enter by telling you about my dream grand adventure.

Firstly, it would be a child free adventure, one I’d take with a friend in order to provide myself with some much needed respite.

There are many places on my too go list but I couldn’t presently think of a better place than the Swiss Alps. For my epic adventure, I choose Grindelwald Switzerland, the place of magnificent scenery, famous snow topped mountains, lush pastures and flower filled meadows.

20130128-231025.jpg

I’m not into Skiing but Grindelwald has so much more to offer from scenic hikes, to husky rides, ice skating to sledding.

Yes, Grindelwald in Switzerland’s Alps offers its visitors both relaxation amongst beautiful surrounding and true epic adventure. Here’s how I’d make this trip the most memorable for the least amount of money.

Getting there…

Visitors can fly to either Geneva or Zurich and then use public transport (railway) to reach Grindelwald.

Getting About…

There is no need for car hire when staying at Grindelwald as the area has fantastic transport links. There is a good running train service, cablecars, chairlifts, gondolas, buses, trams and more with most forms of transport being very reasonably priced. You can even hire yourself an E-Bike for just an hour or a whole day if desired.

Where to stay.

Hotels ain’t cheap in this beautiful part of the Swiss Alps, however Hotels are not your only option. How about staying on a farm? Seriously you can sleep on the hay at a friendly Swiss farm amongst the goats and cattail. However if this isn’t your thing there are a number of really cheap stay hostels with prices from as little £21 pp pn. I discovered a great little hostel for £43 pn that is located right at the bottom of the famous mountain Eiger. Another really cheap way to visit the alps is by camping at one of its camper parks

Dinning…

As opting for a self catering holiday normally works out a lot cheaper therefore providing me with more cash For the fun stuff. I could see myself enjoying lunch at one of the villages many cafes. The local shops also sell reasonably priced local produce, such a cheese meats and … Yes, Chocolate. I’d love to spend at least one night camping, toasting marshmallows on an open fire while tucking into some beautiful locally brought bread and cheese.

Epic things i’d do while Visiting this magical place.

I would have to have a go at Trotti biking. I’d hike through beautiful scenic vistas and visit the nearby lakes and only once I’d reached 2,000 meters above sea level would I race on my Trotti bike back down the mountain on a 40 minute ride of my life through the stunning Swiss countryside. Trotti bikes are two wheel stand on electric scooters. Trotti biking is excellent fun and won’t break the bank with prices from CHF18-30

If visiting in the summer I’d have to try my hand at a hike. And where better than the Grosse Scheidegg mountain pass connecting Grindelwald and Meiringen. Its very much about the scenery and I have heard that on clear summer days there are spectacular views of Grindelwald, the Eiger and the Kleine Scheidegg. It can amount to 3+ hike but its also cost nothing, its free to take in such beauty .

Ice skating in Grindelwald town centre sounds like fun and doesn’t cost much either. The town also has a busy night life with bars and concerts. Like anywhere some bars are more expensive than others. I’d make it my mission to visit those with the best offers and happiest happy hours.

I’d take an amazing sightseeing trip on the Jungfrau cog railway (Ticket to the top of the world). The 50 minute journey takes you through underground tunnels and through beautiful mountain scenery. It includes a stop at Eigarward in the middle of Eigers North face allowing you to get up close through the observation windows. What’s more the trip takes you to the beautiful ice palace 1,000 square meter igloo surrounded by magnificent ice sculpture. The last stop is yet the best, the Aletsch Glacier (the largest in the Alps) a chance for me to snap some truly breathtaking pics for me to instagram. Ok, its not that cheap with tickets costing between CHF130-160 but with all the money I’ve saved on this holiday it wouldn’t be an issue.

To make this trip extra epic I’d just throw myself from the Glacier Gorge (with a bungee attached of course) plummeting 85m downwards towards the beautiful glacial meltwater river… Can you get more epic than that?

Here’s a video I found of a bungee jump from the Glacier on youtube.

Just by being sensible with your money it really can go a long way. Its simply about cutting back in some areas in order to get more benefit from others. Decide whats important to you and then budget efficiently allowing yourself to have an epic adventure while on holiday.

This is my entry into the MoneySupermarket Grand Adventure Bloggers competition.

Although I know its to late to nominate I put forward mumofthreeboys and superlucky

#Healing4Kerry

24 Nov

Today is a special day, its a day that us as a blogging community have come together to channel our positive thoughts and send them in the direction of the lovely Kerry, AKA Multiple Mummy.

Kerry who writes the blog a Multiple mummy sadly suffered a brain aneurysm and hasn’t been able to come home to her family for sometime now.

I’ve only met Kerry twice at blogging events but have been a subscriber to her wonderful blog since it came about. I miss her upbeat post and wonderful crafts and photographs. She has this way of making you smile with her fabulous tales of motherhood.

I’ve been following her progress via her husbands updates on the blog and recently I heard that Kerry’s progress has slowed a bit.

Her husband has posted a beautiful collection of photos in the format of video slide that you can view over on her blog.

Tonight at 10pm there will be a a minute pause for the lovely Kerry which has been organised by New Mum online

You can use the hashtag #Healing4Kerry on twitter to send your best wishes or to read that of others.

I know I will stop whatever I’m doing at 10pm and send positive thoughts Kerry’s way. I will also munch a bar of Galaxy in her honour.

My thoughts will continue to be with Kerry and her family and I’m really looking forward to reading her words in the future.

A healing angel for Kerry

Chocolate, sun and lots of fun

19 Jul

It’s hard work having family days out when one off your children is one the autism spectrum but it’s nice to know that regardless of the meltdowns and possible blow ups Little man is prone to, that have been so clearly described in my writing throughout many post on this very blog, there are still those out there willing to take a chance on us.

I love Cadbury’s and think the Spots VS. Stripes campaign is brilliant. Some may remember a post I wrote sometime ago relating to the campaigns latest games, ‘Race Season’ where myself and a friend went on an invite only event that see us trying to break world records and eat to much chocolate.

Well, It was a joy to receive a email from the lovely Sophia, a member of the PR team working on behalf of Cadburys who had invited me and the children down to the Sainsburys Pandemonium Festival as VIP guests. The Pandemonium Festival was a celebration of the launch of Kung-Fu Panda 2 Movie and Cadburys were there showcasing their latest games, ‘Cadbury Spots v Stripes Minute To Win It games’

Minute to Win it is a massive hit TV show from the US which is bashed around wacky game playing which Cadbury are sponsoring as part of their sponsorship of the 2012 London Olympic games.

The Cadbury games crew were inviting members of the public attending the event to try out the Cadbury Spot v Stripes Minute To Win It games which are made up off child friendly mini games which were fantastic. The public were certainly up for the challenge as the Cadbury stand was heaving! Knowing little man could possible freak out having to wait in the long line on this very hot day his sister took to the line instead allowing him to join her once she had made it all the way to the front bless her. The games team were great and Ben the guy in charge was great with my little man keeping him entertained while he waited and putting up with his millions of questions about the Spots Vs. Stripes van (transport crazy)

When it came to the games Little man let the side down by declaring he was a stripe, while my daughter knew her place when she proudly announced that she was a spot like mum! The children tried out a few mini games, this one being my best!

I thought Little man was gonna take this poor guys head off at one point.

This next game was a classic. Battling against one another it was the perfect game for these monsters. With their shoe half on, half off the aim was to flick the shoe into the air aiming it at the target. The one who was closest won.

Can you tell who that was? Yes, Little Man was on the verge of meltdown mode but he proudly held it together and coped pretty well with losing. Little Sis did however rub it in with her victory dance!

Lastly it was prize giving time. Thankfully both got awards.

Ready Steady Lick

19 Jul

Don’t be put off by the title, this is a family blog and is no way inappropriate, Ok!

I actually post tonight, sharing some need to know information for biscuit lovers, charity campaigners, fundraisers  and competition chasers alike.

Not only am I going to tell you an easy way to raise funds for the fantastic children’s charity KidsOut,  “A charity that make it their mission to give disadvantaged children and young people fun, positive activities and experiences that contribute to their development, providing them with a happier future” but I’m also offering you the chance to get your mitts on a great prize courtesy of Oreo.

Last week I received an email from the lovely people at Oreo’s who invited me to take part in their new Double stuff Oreo lick race. The lick race is a competition to find Britain’s most entertaining Lick Racer’ while encouraging fun family moments. “Well my family has often been looked upon as entertaining, normally during one off little man’s full on meltdowns during a trip to the local supermarket, given I’m used to a bit of public attention and the fact I’m totally sick of dieting, I thought why not”

How does it work?

Based on the ritual of twisting an Oreo, licking off the creme, and dunking the remaining biscuits in milk, a lick race is all about having fun as a family by doing the ritual in a way everyone can enjoy!

This is filmed and uploaded to the Oreo Lick Race website or better still you can do it live via web cam (No, not with my little angels… uploading later was my choice).

Once you’ve uploaded get your family and friends voting for you to win!

Not only will you have a giggle, the chance to win a VIP family holiday to Florida but for every video clip uploaded Oreo will donate £1 to the charity ‘KidsOut’ with three categories and up to five entrants per category allowed, your given plenty off opportunities to bag the prize and raise a tidy sum of £15 for this fantastic cause.

Enter in one or all three of the categories
Child Vs Parent

Sibling Vs Sibling

Grandparent Vs Grandchild

Oreo kindly supplied me with a Lick Race Kit containing everything I needed to participate. We have filmed a couple of races in the parent vs. sibling and sibling vs. sibling categories “I’m still working on my mother for her co-orperation within the Grandparent category, which isn’t proving easy but I’ve still got some time left and I’m a determined woman!” I plan to complete a few more races giving myself the prefect excuse to stuff my face with a few more yummy new double creme Oreo’s before uploading. Did we have any tantrums during the Lick race? Of course this is my families Lick Race I’m referring to! Little man did get upset once and he accused his sister of breaking the rules (a few flying Oreo’s and a table may of made interesting viewing for the crazed reality fan sat at home, but with a quick press of the delete button I took care of that!)

So why don’t you all get licking! Remember there are rules (such as no teeth) amongst others, so before kicking off your Lick Race visit the Oreo lick race official website HERE to find out how to play, the rules of play and what you need to participate (yummy Oreo biscuits, milk, tumblers, web cam or video cam/mobile phone and internet access)

Oreo kindly provided me with an extra Lick Race kit to give away to one of our lucky readers.

The kit contains all you need for your Lick Race including a stylish HD flip Cam with tripod to record your Double Stuff Oreo Lick Race.

All you have to do is comment below telling me one of your most memorable family moments.

The competition will only ran for three days so that you still have time to record and upload your Lick Race. Please leave an email address or twitter id so I can contact you if you win. I will contact you on the 22nd July in-order to get your address (UK only). If I haven’t heard back from you by mid-night on the 22nd I will have to re-draw (this is due to the lick race finishing on the 31st July 2011)

This giveaway will end at mid-night on the 21st July 2011

Oero Lick Race competition closes on the 31st July 2011

Little man set to break world records

21 Feb

I have one question for you all… Are you a spot or a stripe?

I guess your wondering what the hell I’m banging on about!

This is what I thought when little man asked me that very same question!

Well, let me explain.

Cadburys (you know that awesome company that make lush chocolate treats) are the official treat provider for the London 2012 Olympic games. Being Cadburys and doing nothing by halfs they have created the spots v stripes campaign in the run up to the big games.

The campaign aims to get the nation playing games.
By becoming a spot or a stripe (I’m a spot) you can compete against the otherside to gain points.

This is done by playing a number of games online, via video, at home, work, school or anywhere else you fancy.
It really is up to you where and what you play. You can create your own games and events and grab ideas online… How about thumb wrestling, creme egg dares, sack racing or even better dancing. Go online and play against the otherside or join in at one off the spots v stripes touring events that could be happening somewhere near you… It’s that easy.

So, Cadburys over all aim is to create Britains biggest and longest game, and I must say they don’t seem to be doing a bad job of it so far

Well, my Little man is a stripe and often visits the website where he adds his points and checks out who’s winning (spots or stripes) he has been eagerly awaiting the launch of the Cadburys race season which starts today and I will expand on this in just a bit! He has made me promise to take him to the next london event at Westfields London on the 16th and 17th of April and has this tendency to approach random people on the bus, shops or everywhere else we maybe… asking them, “excuse me, are you a spot or a stripe?”

So as to enjoy the campaign alongside my Little dude, I decided to get involved by becoming a spot, then as if by magic I was lucky enough to be invited along to the bloggers only event in London to promote race season.

Race season will run for a number of weeks thoughout spring, it will have nine different races that you can take part in via video (uploading your race to utube spots vs stripes) the website or attending an event.

What’s even more exciting (just ask little man) is the fact that you have the chance to set a new world record and even be included in the official Guinnes world records.

The bloggers event was excellent. I can’t remember the last time I had such fun making a bed while getting tipsy on white wine and trying to set a new world record “we were so close”

Race season is all about doing everyday things at speed… the nine races include… Bed making, Tea making (don’t be fooled this isn’t your normal tea making), toilet roller, doodler and little mans faviorite one of all… coin stacking.

The event was held at phd London. A group of bloggers came together to test out the 9 race challenges while enjoying the yummy food provided and the free bar…Oh and let’s not forget the bowls of Cadburys chocolates… Mmmm 🙂

Are you jealous yet?

It was quite comical to watch a load of full grown adults throwing tea bags into cups after having had a few beers or glasses of wine… I have to say I found bed making at speed very entertaining to watch and was grining like the cat that got the dairy milk when me and my close friend who was my guest for the evening teamed up and came a very respectable and praiseworthly second, which isn’t bad given ive always stated that bed making isn’t one of my strong points to the family *cheeky giggle*

While we all made drunken tits of ourselves while being filmed trying to achieve a world record (yes you did hear correctly, I did say filmed!) this was no joke for some as one of the guest was actually the current world record holder for tea making, or should I say tea bag throwing! This chap was determined to hold on to his record… which he actually managed (well for that night atleast) bagging himself a £100 john lewis voucher… The lucky bugger!

Everything was above board as all games were filmed and observed by a number of official adjudicators ensuring us bloggers stuck to the rules and no funny business had gone on.

This was a seriously entertaining evening, one i’m sure not to forget in a hurry. I felt like a kid again and found it a great way to let go off all the stresses of these past few months just by being silly.

At the end of the night we were given a goody bag containing some lovely makeup (of course the guys got a suitable alternative substitute) along with other treats and tons of yummy race bars… The new Cadburys treat bar to promote race season. We also got this gaint addict ball (a big clear ball that looked like some kid of maze inside it) Its one of those things that requires you to be a logical thinker with great non verbal reasoning skills (which isn’t me but without question little man) The ball also claims to help improve hand & eye coordination, patience & dexterity as well as fine motor skills. Of course I told little man and his sister they must share it (Little man agreed with much reluctance but has been lucky as little sister isn’t that interested after all)

The big race is officially launching today and is on tour across the UK from march, So be sure to join in.

I’m glad I went along to this fantabulous event, as now I can help little man try and set some world records and encourge his little sister to join in too.

However coin stacking and toilet rolling wasn’t what I had in mind! As it’s all about doing everyday task at speed I created some of my own records for them to set.

The first has already been achived on a daily basis.. “Messing the house up in speed, following mum having just cleaned up”

The others I’ve created are as follows: Who can get their little butt to bed fastest, the quickest bedroom cleaner, fastest dresser for school of a morning, and the biggest record and hardest record … who can do what they have been told the quickest, without any back chat.

Splendid ideas, but somehow the odds of dedication and over all achievement are looking a little slim… I don’t think little man nor his sister are going to be to impressed with my challenges.

As I write this my Little man is sat at the table stacking two pence pieces but sadly keeps knocking them down with his left arm which is meant be be kept under the table!!!

Somehow I think it’s gonna be a long, long night!
