Review – Diggs Nightcrawler New To Wonderbook PS3

4 Jun

20130606-112853.jpg

Ever wondered who bumped off Humpty Dumpty? Turns out it wasn’t the accident we all thought it was and now its time we discovered who’s responsible for the death of this unfortunate egg.

Sony have done it again! A fabulous new game for kids on the PS3. The new Wonderbook game requires players to have a camera and move controller… With these tools you can finally uncover the truth behind Humpty’s fall.

This is a one player game designed with children in mind! Diggs Nightcrawler, Library city private detective and best friend of Humpty’s, is the prime suspect in his best friends death. Maintaining his innocence, Diggs has no choice but to launch his own investigation to clear his name and find the real culprit. However Diggs requires that of a fresh young mind to get to the bottom of the mystery! That’s where you come in. Meanwhile the police are asking for everybody’s help to book Diggs once and for all.

This maybe one for the kids but who’s to say mum can’t get in on the action too? This is a game the entire family will enjoy together. Its an action packed story and game rolled into one with action and surprises on every page. We already love using Wonderbook on Little mans ps3 and have enjoyed playing along to the first Wonderbook release “Book of Spells!” But its my opinion that the wonderbook’s second release “Diggs Nightcrawler” takes the wonderbook experience to a whole new level!

The game has many features such as popups and puzzles, plus you can replay chapters to score for clues you may have missed! The move controller acts as a magnify glass to let you get up close and solve the crime.

Diggs Nightcrawler gets a big thumbs up from us! Now we can’t wait to see what Sony have in store for us next.

The game has already hit the shops and is priced at a really reasonable £13.99 check it out here at Amazon

Check the game preview on the youtube video below.

A Children’s Picture Book That Children With Aspergers Can Relate To

28 Mar

20130328-215629.jpg

I was lucky enough to be sent a review copy of a fabulous new children’s picture book from Flashlight press, all the way in the US.

And how gratefully received this was! Its a picture book like non I’ve read before! One that highlights one of the common autism traits I know all to well… The ability to be that little bit too honest!

I actually found myself laughing out loud as I read the book “Being Frank” as there was one particular part that reminded me of an incident at little man’s school! Actually it was almost the exact same scenario. In the book Frank is a little too honest (as the title suggests) and on one occasion he tells the teacher that her breath smells funny and is therefore sent to the principal as a result of his honesty. Ok, little man didn’t inform the teacher of her funny smelling breath, he instead told the head teacher that his breath smelt like his grandmas dogs.

Anyone who parents a child on the autism spectrum can easily spot the trait in Franks honest manner. Franks motto is that “Honesty is the best policy” He tells the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth! Only he soon begins to realise that its not always appreciated, especially by adults. Frank is only being honest when he tells his mother she has lots of wrinkles as a result of her glaring at him, and even worse, when his mother is stopped by the police for speeding and frank informs the policeman that his mother was aware she was speeding as he had already told her so.

20130328-215722.jpg

20130328-215828.jpg

Frank learns with the help of his grandpa that yes it is important to be honest but its all about being tactful when you do.

Its all about a “Little more sugar and a bit less pepper!”

This is a real enjoyable and funny story with some lovely but all the same , hilarious illustrations. I think children with Aspergers in particular, will really be able to relate to frank. The book could well be used as a great social skills training tool and resource. Its one I’ll be recommending to families of children on the autism spectrum for sure.

Being Frank
Is written by Donna Earnhardt, and illustrated by Andrea Castellani

Being Frank was a runner up in the About.com readers choice awards

Sadly its not widely available here in the UK but its really worth getting one shipped over.

Check it out over at Flashlight Press

Beautiful Books From Top That Publishing

24 Oct

When I saw that ‘Top That Publishing PLC‘ were looking for reviewers I couldn’t wait to volunteer! You see top that have a fabulous range of beautifully illustrated children’s titles that myself and the children have totally fallen in love with.

They say that first impressions are everything! Well, you wont be disappointed with ‘Top That’. One of our books was sent gift wrapped in the prettiest Christmas paper, finished with beautifully tied ribbon. Once opened we did not only discover a beautiful Christmas tale but the added addition of some Christmas silver coins and festive wrapped chocolate balls… A lovely thoughtful touch.

20121024-125433.jpg

The titles we were sent were as followed…

The Froobels Fun Things To Make And Do
The Froobels Little Jack Potato And The Big Suprise
Santas Sleigh (With Pop Out & Build Sleigh)
When I Dream Of Christmas

I was particularly excited to receive ‘The Froobels Fun Things to Make and Do‘ book and as expected it came packed with crafting inspiration. We are planning to make pasta pictures and potato stampers this week thanks to the creative ideas given. The book also comes with over 400 stickers (that you will find in the back pages of the book). Of course the toddler was excited at discovering these as most little people are, Harley is no exception when it comes to sticker mad toddlers.

20121024-125639.jpg

20121024-130732.jpg

Little Jack Potato is a mini book containing a cute & engaging tale combine with questions to further encourage children to become involved in the story. What was really interesting was how I’d just introduced Jacket potatoes into the toddlers diet. He loves them and I’d been hearing the word Jacket Potato for a week or more when the book arrived. He instantly took to the book purely because it was based on a Froobels character called Jack Potato. Harley totally enjoyed the story and remained engaged throughout.

20121024-125544.jpg

This book also contains a number of stickers which I showed Harley once we had completed the story. (Otherwise his attention would have certainly been lost sooner).

Press Out and Build – Santas Sleigh is so much more than a book its a creative construction set designed to keep ones mind busy for hours. Not only does this come with a beautifully illustrated Christmas tale but also a pop out card construction kit that needs colouring in then slotting together.

20121024-133212.jpg

20121024-133340.jpg

However, this may sound simple enough, but things are not always as they may first seem. Trust me, this isn’t one for smaller children! It’s incredible fiddly and much more complex than one may first think! There are many pieces and once complete the constructed sleigh measures an impressive 4 ft long.

The recommend age for this book is 7+ but be prepared to put in the time to help you your construct the sleigh.

20121024-133557.jpg

Currently my daughter is busy colouring in the many reindeers to pull the sleigh and when she’s finished we will be putting this up together. Note… The making of the sleigh as well as our projects from the Make and Do title will be displayed and shared on my sister blog Mummy of many Talents.

Lastly, there was that beautifully gift wrapped book “When I dream of Christmas” This is a delightful paperback with stunning illustrations throughout. Its certainly one designed to put the family in the mood for Christmas and its been Harley’s choice of a bedtime story on a number of occasions since we first received it.

20121024-125716.jpg

As a family we would highly recommend ‘Top That’ books. Each of the above titles has offered fun, enchantment and magic in its own special way. Its so easy to get children to open there imagination when being read a book from the Top That collection and I’d return again and again.

We will be doing some of the crafts from the Make and Do book and sharing these on the blog Mummy of many Talents in the next week. We will also be sharing our pop out and build sleigh over there too.

Disclaimer: We were sent the books from Top That in-order to share our thoughts and opinions. All words are honest and that of my own. I was not paid to write the review.

Top New DVD Titles To Entertain The Kids This Half-Term

17 Oct

A Couple of DVDs to keep the kids entertain this October Half Term… Well, for an hour or so anyway!

Monsuno The Battle Begins

Monsuno, the international hit animated show which airs on CiTV and Nick Toons in the UK wasn’t a children’s production I was familiar with before we were sent a copy. This meant I had no expectations and not a clue to whether or not any of the three children would enjoy it!

20121017-205705.jpg

Here’s what it’s all about…

“Sixty five million years ago meteors fell to the planet containing life in the form of a powerful, genetic material – Monsuno. For centuries this essence lay dormant, until now… When Chase’s dad, scientist Jeredy Suno, discovers the source, he thinks it could be the solution to the world’s energy crisis, but what he actually uncovers are huge creatures with unbelievable powers. Working to control the monster’s powers for good, Suno is forced underground leaving Chase, Bren and Jinja to defeat the dark powers trying to harness the Monsuno for themselves, in what turns out to be a real battle of the beasts.”

The DVD features seven high-octane episodes.

Now Little man pulled some strange face when I suggested we watch it together. He then informed me he had no interest in it whatsoever. Once I’d asked him to give it a chance, after a bit of moaning he settled down next to the toddler to watch it.

Well… For something he had no interest in, it didn’t do to bad to hold his attention! He did find himself quite into it after all.

Admittedly he didn’t watch the DVD till the end as its quite a long one but he did return to watch it at a later time.

The toddler however wondered off within a minute or two of it coming on, but that didn’t matter as I had something for him to watch that was far more to his liking… Yes Mike the Knight!

Monsuno The Battle Begins was released by FremantleMedia Enterprises on Monday 15th October, RRP £9.99. So, its available to buy now!

Thirteen epic episodes of Monsuno are also available to download from iTunes at £0.99 each.

Admittedly I had forgotten that the guys at HIT Entertainment had sent us “Mike the Knight Galahad the Great” to review… How, I will never know as his always watching it.

20121017-203203.jpg

Here’s a little about this DVD…

“Mike the Knight’s best friend and trusty steed Galahad comes to the fore in this latest set of adventures from the pre-school favourite. Mike is determined to be the best horse trainer in all of Glendragon and he wants Galahad to look perfect – really knightly! Mike gives Galahad sparkling bells on his hooves and a brand new saddle, but when things start to go wrong the knight-in-training soon realises that Galahad is perfect just the way he is. Determined to help others and aided by his rallying cry ‘Be a knight, do it right’, Mike soon learns the power of responsibility as he embarks on five fun-filled missions in this brand new DVD.”

As a missive fan of this cute little knight we knew Harley would love the DVD. He watches it almost as much as his favourite Thomas and that’s got to say something.

“Mike the Knight Galahad the Great” is available now from all good DVD stockist, RRP £12.99

#Win Family Tickets For The Fabulous Lollibop Festival

10 Jul

20120710-140455.jpg

It’s almost that time again for this years Big Bash For Little People… The amazing Lollibop.

I’ve seriously been looking forward to next months Lollibop Festival, so much so, there is a danger that I’m more excited about it than the children.

Myself and sister attended last years event along with our toddlers. I have stored away in my mind, the wonderful memory that was the look on my little Harley’s face when he came face to face with all his idols such as Bob the Builder, George Pig and Raster Mouse to name just a few.

Last week I posted an update on this years line up and if you’ve already checked it out then you will know where I’m coming from when I declare it be… Totally Fabulous and worth getting extremely excited about.

Last year, I found that despite the festival heaving with little partygoers everyone got well looked after. The festival is totally accessible for those with disabilities, it even has a raised platform with wheelchair access. which has been directed towards the main stage. This therefore means everyone gets to see their favourite children’s characters over the sea of heads which is formed the crowd. This doesn’t just apply to those in wheelchairs but also those children with autism or sensory processing disorder who cant do the whole crowd thing (normally resulting in meltdowns). Despite the fact little man didn’t attend last year I was confident that the lollibop was ensuring all children and families the time of their lives.

20120710-140543.jpg

There is just so much to do and see while attending Lollibop that if I went through everything this post would simply never end.

20120710-140653.jpg

Harley & Peppa Go To Playschool

28 Feb

Oh, we received a rather special gift for the toddler last week. The postman knocked at our door with a very special delivery, in a big white cardboard envelope and addressed to Harley himself.

How excited he was to open the envelope and discover a very special Peppa Pig book! Yes, this wasn’t just any Peppa Pig book, but a personalised Peppa Pig book, titled, “Peppa Pig and Me – Harley and Peppa go to playgroup”

This is a truly special book for a truly special boy

The beautifully presented paperback story book is filled with brilliant personalised touches making it really exciting for little Harley.

This includes cartoon styled illustrations of Harley with Peppa pig, which have been cleverly generated from the details I gave when ordering the book. His name also appears throughout the story.

Harley displayed an almighty smile upon his face as I read him the story of how he spent his first day at playgroup amongst Peppa pig and all her amazing friends. He never lost interest once, keeping his attention throughout the time I was reading.

He was so adorable as he kept nodding his head and saying “Peppa pig hold Harley hand”

I was dead impressed with this book, a Ladybird publication that is beautifully illustrated and worded from start to finish.

It’s easy to order your personalised story which is available from the awesome site Buyagift.com, all you have to do is give a few details that help describe your child’s characteristics, and if desired a small personalised message, which in my opinion makes a lovely touch.

I’d highly recommend this book, and it could prove the perfect alternative to a chocolate egg this Easter.

The book is priced at £14.99, to find out more visit Buyagift.com who sell a huge range of truly unique gift ideas, from personalised books to gift experiences including pampering days which i actually wouldn’t mine this mothers day (though I’m sure the pocket-money of three little ones wouldn’t cover it)! A mum can dream, can’t she:)

Popblast the approved pop for teenyboppers

19 Nov

When we were asked to have a listen to Popblast album & give a few copies away, I thought why not, it could prove to be a bit of a hit and a top stocking filler for the little teenyboppers this Christmas.

Well, I wasn’t wrong, ‘Popblast went down a storm in our house, my youngest 23 month old Harley swung his nappy for an hour at least.

Popblast is a CD jam packed with non explicit pop music aimed at children who like to sing & dance. The CD is crammed with awesome upbeat pop music  that us parents can trust.

In my opinion, Popblast is simply wonderful, it’s fab tunes engage children in movement, song and dance, with all the dance moves given in simple steps like, ‘clap your hands’ or ‘stamp your feet’  making it easy to follow for even the youngest of ravers.

Yes, myself and Harley had a blast listening, dancing and singing along to this album. Harley loved the ‘Pyjama song’ and displayed some pretty cool moves to the ‘Monsters stomp’ Even the older two got in on the act!

I’ve already stated the benefits of dance for children on the autism spectrum and this CD is just perfect. Little man loves music and he loved dancing with his baby bro, it really has been a mini party at ours this past week.

Children will have a brilliant time dancing around the bedroom with a hairbrush as a mic. No more sitting watching the box as Popblast will engage your child in some energetic dance, helping them to stay fit and healthy while being dealt a massive helping of fun in the process.

Popblast is great for all and may provide a stack of benefits for the child on the autism spectrum or those with additional needs. This especially looks to be the case when it comes to the Live shows, that promise to teach children some important life skills through the use of motivational interaction using games, song, and dance routines. These skills involve the issues surrounding friendships, respect and personal well-being to name a few. I honestly haven’t attended an event and I’m purely stating my opinions having watched some of the videos of the live events and listening to this fantastic album which really kind of speaks for itself!

If you fancy attending one of the live events, I’d suggest keeping your eyes peeled and ears pinned back listening out for dates and checking the Popblast site for event updates.

The fabulous new Popblast album consists of ten fun tracks including that of the groovy ‘Pyjama song’ that Harley went mental for! All songs are available for download from all major outlets or can be purchased through the ‘Popblast website’ or at one of their spectacular live events.

You can even listen to the songs on the Popblast website before you buy… How can you get it wrong?

However, despite the ease that comes with getting ahold of a copy of this album, wouldn’t it be just awesome to get your hands on a one for free?

I was given 5 copies of the Popblast album… one for myself to review and 4 to give away!

So… Do you fancy doing the Monster Stomp or the Pyjama Dance on Christmas Day?

If that was a yes, and I do hope it was! Then here’s how you can win yourself and you’re teenyboppers an official Popblast album…

Ben and Holly’s little kingdom giveaway

5 Oct

 Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom

The Tooth Fairy

We got an email a few weeks back alerting us of a new DVD release for pre-schoolers. We were asked to do a review and run a competition of Ben & Holly’s Little kingdom The tooth fairy which is brought to us from the same creators of “Peppa Pig” which Little Harley adores.

Well, as you can see we agreed, so here we are!

 Here’s what the creators say..

Budding fairies and mischievous elves are invited into an enchanting little world that’s big on magic in Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom: The Tooth Fairy, the new DVD release from the BAFTA award winning animation.

Brought to you from the creators of Peppa Pig, Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom: The Tooth Fairy is available to buy from Monday 3rd October 2011 (£12.99 RRP Cert. U, Entertainment One).  The DVD contains 10 exciting episodes that perfectly blend magic, adventure and humour that will delight and engage young fans.

Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom is a firm favourite on Nick Jr and Channel 5’s Milkshake where boys and girls tune in every day to follow the adventures of Princess Holly and her best friend Ben Elf. Holly is a young fairy who is still learning how to do magic properly. Ben is an elf and elves don’t do magic, but they are very good at making things.  Along with their friends, Ben and Holly have lots of fun and exciting adventures playing together in the Little Kingdom.

Small in scale but big on magic Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom: The Tooth Fairy is set to sprinkle a magical blend of fairy dust on homes across the land when it is released this autumn.

What we thought…

Despite Harley’s Love for Gorge pig we had never seen any episodes of Ben and Holly (Maybe because we don’t have Sky or Cable TV).

So, I popped this into the DVD player in the bedroom, snuggled up with my youngest and watched this shortly before his bedtime.

Harley was interested and kept saying “Look mum” In my opinion his pretty advanced for his 22 months and tends to point out and name lots of things.

Each episode is nice and short which keeps the little ones interested. You get quite a few episodes on the one DVD, ten in-fact which is just enough, though we watched around four before Harley drifted off to the land of happiness, so we watched the remaining six the following day. He must have enjoyed them as he went over to the TV as soon as he woke and asked, “Mummy, where gone?”

Here’s the episodes you get.

EPISODE LISTING – The Elf Factory – Ben’s Birthday Card – Books – Betty Caterpillar – Queen Holly – The Woodpecker – The Elf Band – The Ant Hill – Redbeard the Elf Pirate – The Tooth Fairy

We both enjoyed Ben and Holly (Mummy didn’t have a choice given I’ve watched it a further three times).

Ben and Holly’s  Little kingdom The tooth fairy, is fun bold and colourful. It will keep little ones entertained allowing parents to take a breather (unless like Harley yours wants you to join them).

You can now buy Ben and Holly’s Kingdom The tooth fairy on DVD as it was released this past Monday the 3rd October from Entertainment One priced at £12.99
