Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom Stage Show Review

14 Nov

Given Little Man and his sister are much older than the toddler (there is a 10 & 7 year age gap) I know how fast it goes and I’m trying to make the Pre-school years as magical as possible for the toddler (and myself).

I know Harley is my last and there will be no more babies! Before I know it he will be off to school like his siblings and to be honest, I’ll be a tad sad.

We have created lots of magical memories of toddlerhood and just a few weeks back we added another of those memories to the list when myself, sister, niece and Harley went to see one of his favourite shows! Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom.

20121114-154234.jpg

Yep, the live tour has kicked off and we got to see it during its first pit stop, when the stage of the Orchard Theatre Dartford Kent was transformed into a magical fairy kingdom.

The all too familiar theme tune played out as we took our seats and both toddlers ( Harley and niece Amy) could be heard excitedly cheering as they waved and jumped up and down in their seats as Princess Holly took to the stage.

20121114-155907.jpg

I love these moments, the sheer happiness something so simple can bring to a toddlers life. Harley loves getting to see all of his favourite characters from the TV, only now, his forever requesting “Mum can we see them, please…please?”

The show was made up of a few of the episodes, only with extra scenes added on, in-order to make it that bit more lengthy and entertaining ( let’s not forget the TV episodes only last around 5 minutes each).

20121114-160026.jpg

The set looked really magical and the show included full size costumes and for one scene beautiful puppets. All of the characters can be found in the show. There is of course Princess Holly and her best friend Ben Elf, plus… Nanny plum, the king, and not forgetting the wise old elf.

20121114-154352.jpg

What we really loved about this particular show was how interactive it was. There were many fantastic songs that required the children to join in and mimic the actions. Both toddlers loved all this and didn’t need any encouragement from myself or my sister, to get up on their feet and join in.

We had an excellent Sunday morning watching the show and came home with some fabulous Ben and holly light up spinning wands and reading books . We found the merchandise really reasonably priced considering we were at a kids production and I’ve seen much more expensive items in the post.

Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom is brought to life in a truly magical performance. We highly recommend the show to families with little Ben and holly fans (even those who are not, are bound to be by the time the curtain goes down).

The Live stage show is running till July next year. Click Here for your dates and venues.

Dinosaurs – Schools Out

5 Aug

We love a good pre-school production, it’s something for myself and the toddler to watch while cuddled up on the sofa drinking tea while the older children are at school. Maybe that’s why it’s been awhile since we reviewed a children’s DVD, you know, what with them currently being on school holiday! Life is always more hectic.

However, when the Little man and Alice-Sara went out for the day with their father a few days back, myself and toddler took advantage of the free time and sat down to watch the brand new DVD… ‘Harry And His Bucket Full Of Dinosaurs – School’s Out

The 2012 Lollibop festival for little ones

4 Jul

20120704-221851.jpg

So I went last year with the toddler and it was an absolute blast… Now it’s almost that time again… Time for the Lollibop, the kids festival that has it all.

I blogged earlier in the year to alert all readers that the early bird tickets went on sale, now I can’t quite believe that it’s almost here already!

Last years festival was amazing, I went along with my sister and we both took along out toddlers. Seriously, it was a toddlers paradise. I had to drag Harley kicking and screaming when it was time to leave… He loved it.

If you haven’t got your tickets to this years Lollibop at Regents park then you just may want to after reading the updated line up below.

LolliBop, in partnership with John Lewis, is returning to Regent’s Park this summer, with a line up designed to delight mini festival goers. Billed as The Big Bash for Little People, the event takes place between August 17 and 19 and is aimed at children up to the age of 10.

The ‘LolliBop Live’ stage will play host to some of the hottest names in kids entertainment with musical performances from the likes of the ZingZilla’s, Jassa Aluwahlia (Art Attack) and The Mr Men & Little Miss Party Roadshow. TV favourites Dick and Dom will also take to the stage to entertain crowds with their unique blend of music and games.

20120704-221955.jpg

Celebrating its first year in the West End, Shrek the Musical will also make a special appearance with a performance from the award-winning show (Sunday 19 only).

Global phenomenon Moshi Monsters will also be on site, bringing the UK’s first Moshi Monsters Mash Up Tournament to Lollibop. Taking place each day, children are challenged to put their Mash Up skills to the test. All players will also receive a free pack of Mash Up cards, so everyone can join in. Fans are encouraged to bring their own collections with them, as there has never been a better chance to trade with other Moshi Card collectors. Head over to the Moshi tent for lots of other fun and games including character appearances, monster quizzes and more!

In the Lollipaladium, see the story of The Gruffalo brought to life on the stage with plenty of audience interaction. CBeebies favourite, Mister Maker will be on hand to demonstrate his unique arts and crafts skills. Mister Maker is a real life character who gets inspiration to make art from everything around him. Packed full of stimulating ideas, set in his own fantasy art world, prepare to expect the unexpected!

20120704-222423.jpg

The brand new life-size Transformers Optimus Prime Truck will also be at the three day event, giving fans the chance to get up and personal with this movie legend.

Other headline attractions include yoga sessions with Waybuloo, workshops by Horrible Histories, Roald Dahl Museum and Storytelling Centre, performances by 8ft Titan the Robot, an Alice In Wonderland tea party and a chance to meet ‘Tiny’, a 125 million years young dinosaur.

Pint sized guests (and grown ups) will notice a few more additions to the 2012 event.

20120704-224604.jpg

The ‘LolliBop Kitchen‘ is an exciting new area, where LolliBoppers will have the chance to learn new skills from live demonstrations and interactive workshops, featuring popular blogger My Daddy Cooks.

A new ’Tween Town‘ area will feature a number of activities for older kids including street dance, hula-hooping, magic and beat-boxing workshops, plus an older arts and crafts tent and a brand new laser room!

Halfords will create a bespoke Bike City at LolliBop, which will include a Wacky Races obstacle course for under 5’s, where children can be the first to try out a brand new range of Balance and Apollo kids bikes. For older kids, highlights include a BMX stunt display and demo area.

20120704-222552.jpg

Other new areas include: ‘LolliBop Animal Curiosities’, which features animals including a polar bear, a dinosaur and gorillas! ‘The Disco Shed‘ which will have mini boppers (and parents!) dancing the day away and ‘The Village Green‘ – the perfect spot to chill out and enjoy some street theatre.

Back by popular demand, the Science Museum are preparing for a triumphant return to Regent’s Park with an expanded area and dedicated Science Zone.

20120704-222816.jpg

For pre-schoolers, the ‘3ft & Under’ area is also back. Confirmed activities include a mini disco, tiny play, little arts, baby ballet, yoga, teddy bears picnic and sing and sign. There will be two boob and botty boudoirs this year, and covered buggy parks and lollishade areas are also being created.

20120704-223338.jpg

Old favourites, including ‘LolliSports‘, ‘Imagination Stations‘, ‘Itsy Bitsy Strictly‘ and ‘The Enchanted Forest‘ will all also return for 2012.

20120704-222714.jpg

And if that wasn’t enough, there are plenty of arts and craft activities, face painting and workshops, including circus skills.

A wide selection of food and drink stalls are on offer to provide a welcome rest.

20120704-223515.jpg

All of the activities, stages and events are included in the entry ticket price, which starts at £22 per person. For more information, including a full programme of events, visit www.lollibopfestival.com

Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom coming to the live stage

24 Jun

My toddler Harley really loves the experience of meeting his favourite pre-school characters in the flesh.

His been pretty lucky to meet many, Bob the Builder, Firemen Sam, Peppa Pig, Scooby Doo, just to name a few.

We have been to live stage productions such as “In the Night Garden” and “Peppa Pig” to a number of meet and Greets while attending children’s events.

So, you can imagine the excitement that will be caused when he discovers that Princess Holly and Ben Elf from “Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom” has a live production scheduled to hit the big stage later this year.

20120624-152741.jpg

If you little ones are fans of the Little Kingdom then check out the details below. (Oh and be sure to check out My updates on the event as there will also be the opportunity to try and win yourselves some tickets).

BEN & HOLLY’S LITTLE KINGDOM

LIVE ON STAGE FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME

FROM THE MAKERS OF PEPPA PIG
NEW UK TOUR FOR 2012/2013

TOUR DATES FOR 2012 ANNOUNCED:
OPENS 26 OCTOBER at THE ORCHARD THEATRE, DARTFORD

www.benandhollylive.com

From the makers of Peppa Pig and the producers of the two hugely successful Peppa Pig theatre tours comes the first ever stage version of the BAFTA award-winning TV animation, Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom. This brand new UK tour opens at The Orchard Theatre, Dartford on 26 October at the start of an extensive UK tour, booking through till summer 2013.

Currently a top favourite show for pre-schoolers, this charmingly magical animation airs on Nick Jr (since April 2009) and on 5’s Milkshake (since April 2010). Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom is co-owned by animation studio Astley Baker Davies and has been a hit with audiences and critics alike. The series won a BAFTA award for Best Pre-School Animation in 2009 and a British Animation Award for Best Pre-School Series in 2012.

The Little Kingdom – where everyone is very, very small – is home to Princess Holly and her best friend Ben Elf. Holly is a young fairy princess who is still learning how to do magic properly and sometimes her spells don’t work out quite right. Ben is an Elf. Elves don’t do magic but they are very good at making things. Ben doesn’t have wings like Holly but he flies on the back of Gaston the Ladybird.

In this exciting new musical adventure, Ben and Holly have fun and games helping Gaston clean up his messy cave; they go on a trip to The Big World with tooth-fairy Nanny Plum; and still have time to plan a surprise for King Elf’s birthday party, complete with an unplanned jelly flood.

Packed full of games, songs and laughter, this is an enchanting and magical visit to the Little Kingdom, live on stage for the very first time. This beautiful story of elves, princesses and childhood innocence will delight all the family.

Richard Lewis has adapted the TV animation for the stage and also directs. He also adapted and directed the two highly popular Peppa Pig theatre tours (2009 – 2011 and the current tour 2011 – 2012, both of which had sell-out West End Christmas runs at the Criterion Theatre) and the two LazyTown Live! tours (2007 – 2009).
The composer is the highly talented Mani Svavarsson. He was also part of the creative team on the two Peppa Pig stage tours.

Cast and other creative team members to be announced in due course.

Review – In the Night Garden Live

2 Jun

I’m guessing every parent with a child under five is familiar with the names Igglepiggle, Upsy Daisy and Makka Pakka!

In the Night Garden is a pre-school production toddlers just can’t get enough of. Yes, it graces the television screen in our house on a daily basis! So… when I heard that the live show was due to hit the big stage I knew the O2 would be on our destination list for this June.

Luckily I got given a fantastic opportunity… One to review the live show which has easily been the toddlers highlight to his year so far.

So, on the 1st June 2012 myself and Harley, along with my sister and 2 year old niece headed down to the O2 to check out the much talked about Show, In the Night Garden Live!

There is two different shows to chose from, The Ninky Nonk show or the Pinky Ponk show, we watched the latter.

20120602-220319.jpg

The show itself is held within a specially designed enchanting show dome which is the perfect size, giving all children a perfect view of the stage. The whole experience has been designed to make it very child friendly and stress free, with buggy parking, baby changing & bottle warming facilities.

On arriving at the show dome you are greeted by giant inflatable Haahoos (these are located outside the dome so are free to see by all)! Inside the magic begins almost instantly. In-order to reach your seats your required to take a short walk through the beautiful lite dome, the sound of that all to familiar theme tune can be heard playing and children can be seen excitedly smiling and dancing about.

20120602-220420.jpg

I loved how the children were not restricted to their seats but instead had plenty of room to more around and dance. There were so many magical moments designed to capture your little ones imagination, music, lighting and a wonderful projection show are just a few pieces of magic on offer. This is a show that consists of full costumes as well as beautifully designed puppets. The story itself is design in the exact same way as that of the TV production only longer (show last almost one hour, perfect for little ones).

20120602-221541.jpg

Harley loved it when Makka Pakka was washing everyone’s faces then suddenly bubbles appeared everywhere. All the children could be heard giggling and cheering as they left their seats trying to catch the bubbles that were now flying above their heads. It was a wonderful touch that along with everything else made the whole experience very magical.

20120602-223544.jpg

When buying show tickets you are given the option to purchase a meet and greet experience with one of the characters. As we had complementary tickets I worried a little that we would be unable to purchase this additional treat on the day. However staff were brilliant and we were slotted in to meet with Upsy Daisy.

br />;;;;
20120602-222353.jpg

The meet and greet session cost an additional £15 for a family of five. This is 3 children and two adults. With the Meet and Greet you are provided with a photo and given the opportunity to buy additional copies at a really reasonable rate.

There was lots of show merchandise on offer and I felt there was something to suit everybody’s pocket. These light up windmills cost just £6 which I found pretty reasonable. Plus the show programme which is RRP at £6 comes complementary with the price of your ticket which I felt was a really lovely touch, one that many parents will appreciate.

20120602-223833.jpg

I must also mention what a wonderful staff team they had working on the day that we visited. All were really helpful and great with the children. My niece had a bit of a dodgy windmill, one of the show assistants noticed, pointed it out and gave her another!

A truly wonderful day was had, it’s really hard to put into words how great a show this is. It’s for this reason I’ve created a video that shows the magic and enchantment of this wonderful show.

And here’s some news coverage on the event, including what the creator of the show has to say.

For show dates, time and ticket information visit the In the Night Garden Live website

In the Night Garden Live is showing at the O2 between the 24th May and the 9th June 2012

Disclaimer: This is not a paid review but we did receive a complementary family ticket to watch the show and share our honest opinion. All thoughts and words are that of my own.

Do It Right… Be A Knight

31 May

Checkout the little handsome chap below…

20120531-122716.jpg

That’s my son you know…

20120531-122813.jpg

Adorable, wouldn’t you agree?

20120531-122937.jpg

Such a big boy now… Drinking from his big boy cup!

20120531-123059.jpg

And guess what? His also a brave young hero… Just like Mike the Knight

20120531-123354.jpg

Mike the Knight was first brought to our screens last November by CBeebies and is already proving to be a raving success. Mike now has a great fan base which includes my two-year old “Harley” as you can see from his impressive tee.

Harley’s very cute t-shirt is exclusive to Tescos for the great price of a fiver.

It features the hero himself Mike the knight as well as one of his dragon companions ‘Squirt’ and the funky little quote “Be a knight do it right”

As you can see from the pictures the t-shirt arrived at the perfect time what with the beautiful weather we’ve been experiencing lately. Of course this also meant there was lots of outdoor action. Seriously the garden can become a very messy place to play, especially when melting ice lollies and blue ice cream (seriously blue…) are thrown in the mix!

I’m not the type of mother who freaks out if the toddler gets a bit messy… It’s what kids do. I do however feel disappointed if their clothing fails to meet the standards expected when they come out the washer. Thankfully the use of good detergent removed any traces of garden and the t-shirt really washes well… No bubbles, peeling or shrinking… Perfect (nothing worse than your child screaming to wear something that has half it’s transfer missing)!

The above for me indicates that lots of wear will be had from the toddlers new tee and that for me confirms it to be great value for money.

Whats more the toddler loves it! His been dashing round the garden all afternoon singing the words of the very catchy Mike the Knight theme tune.

Plus he looks dapper (I can’t believe I just said dapper)!

20120531-133054.jpg

So be sure to… “Do it right be a knight” when dressing your little Mike the Knight fans this summer… and get yourselves of to Tescos.

For full details of the exclusive new range visit Tescos online

Plus I’ve also heard that Mike the Knight himself will be visiting selected Tesco stores for meet and greets in celebration of the new range of toys and clothing. To find out if his coming to a store near you, visit Mike the Knight on Twitter or the Mike the Knight Facebook page
