Funky Giraffe was set up in 2009 by Yasmin Drury, having worked for a major retailer she was all too aware of the cost of production and the massive mark up charged by companies. As a mum herself, she knew what she wanted for her son and set out to produce funky designs at a reasonable price.

A Comfy Treat For Mum

9 Oct

It’s nice to have a treat every now and then and given its the second year of our Santas Little Helpers feature I was asked to review some super Luxurious pyjamas.

I hold my hands up, if I’m not leaving my house then I’m living in comfy pjs. Now for this reason I do consider myself as a bit of a pyjama expert. I’ve heard people state “Oh just get me any pyjamas there only for bed” you should see the look of horror on my face when I hear that.

I love pyjamas they are my safety and comfort net. But before I go on its important to state that no… I do not go out the House in them. I can’t stand it when I spot women out and about sporting pyjamas, especially down at the school, It’s just not classy ladies.

I still want to feel comfortable when at home whether it while I’m sleeping (which I get very little off) or just lounging around the house. Everything from the fit to the material matters to me. Now I haven’t got loads of money to spend on expensive pyjamas but when I do buy some, I buy one’s that are designed to last more than one wash, ones I feel were really worth the money when I spot them sat folded in my draw a year on.

So, the pyjamas I was sent are called Cyberjammies which are sold by that of “The Pyjama Store” and they are quite simply lovely.

Cyberjammies are designed with comfort in mind and this very stylish Cabaret Pyjama Set is no exception.

Cyberjammies are designed for anyone in need of a good night’s sleep and I’m really in need of one of those.

20121009-010654.jpg

20121009-010734.jpg

At £45.00 you may have a mini heart attack but once these Cyberjammies arrive in there own draw string bag, you will discover that for the sheer quality and comfort they offer this isn’t so much after all. These pyjamas will last you for years (judging you don’t grow or fluctuate in weight). They are made from the softest material and both top and bottoms are 100% cotton. These are thin but somehow amazingly warm too.The trousers are the ultimate in super comfort and hang like a pyjama bottom should… Allowing your skin to breathe.

20121009-004415.jpg

I somehow wished this was a catalogue and I could provide you with one of those little fabric attachments stuck by the image of the garment (do you remember these)? Only it is hard to put into words how nice this fabric really is. Not even the picture can display just how luxurious these are!

It just seems the more I wash them the more comfy they become. They don’t shrink, bubble or fade… They remain soft and lovely.

I do love them and feel that many other women will. These are an ideal Christmas gift and I’m so impressed I’ll be ordering more.

Now do ignore these images if you like! I’m not such a photo person these days and trying to get a full body shoot by yourself doesn’t always lead to the most flattering images.

1-2 Freddy’s coming for you!

22 Aug

Last month I did a review of a beautiful Plum Pixie costume for ‘Jokers Masquerade‘ over on my other blog ‘Mummy of Many Talents‘ It was there I mention how Jokers Masquerade stocked a super range of Halloween costumes and as a result I’ve been asked to feature a costume from the range right here on the blog!

OK, OK, Halloween Isn’t tomorrow or next week for that matter, it’s still a couple of months down the calendar. Nonetheless it’s worth being prepared especially those of you who have parties planed! After all it’s like any other occasion we still want to look nothing less than our best and if that means sporting a spectacular costume of something a little freaky than so be it!

As I searched through the extensive range of Halloween costumes on the Jokers Masquerade online store I was lost for choice so it took ages to actually make a final decision.

Freddy Krueger (Nightmare on Elm Street) was my choice. It reminded me of my youth when I watched this as a teenage rebel while staying out all night drinking cheap wine at a friends.

The character is famous for his veiny appearance, stripy jumper and knife like fingers that somehow reminds me of those belonging to “Edward Scissor Hands”.

Now I don’t promote horror movies to the children, Little man wouldn’t entertain them even if I did! But recently he did discover my secret package that shamefully wasn’t hid in the most imaginative of hiding places. He therefore took it upon himself to get dressed up, hide behind the living room door before finally jumping out on me almost causing me a heart attack. Needless to say he found it extremely comical

20120820-062211.jpg

The costume consists of two separate products and three items.

The main part of this Krueger costume consists of a Freddy silicone mask and a large stripy pull over jumper. It’s only available in a range of adult sizes and costs £23.99

The second part of the costume consists of a plastic glove with those knife type fingers. This is sold separately from that of the main costume and can be brought for £8.99

I liked it! It’s of good quality and would last many a Halloween to come (given your not over indulging on to much cake that is)!

The price isn’t the cheapest I’ve ever seen, though it isn’t the most expensive either! The two parts that make up the main costume do look fabulous and if anything you can proudly state your dressed in vintage clobber given its been some years since the film was first aired (somehow my love of vintage always take over).

So, the verdict… A fabulous costume that is ideal for both men and women alike. It’s bound to be a conversation starter at any Halloween party and can even be passed off as a must have vintage piece of clobber.

This is one of a number of great themed Halloween Costumes over at ‘Jokers Masquerade’ Others include that of Chucky ( that demon little red haired doll) Scream, Jason and many others.

Jokers Masquerade offer a vast selection of fancy dress costumes & its not just those for Halloween on offer. Check them out online by visiting their online store by clicking Here!

Festival boho hair with Osis

30 Jul

You know me, I love a good competition especially a creative one.

I also love a good festival and I have a number line up to visit this summer, including the lollibop & that of the wilderness, hence why this competition was perfect for me.

All I had to do was design the perfect festival hair style and Alice-Sara was more than willing to be my mini model.

For me good festival hair is a style that’s pretty but messy. It’s girly boho waves that don’t look like you tried to hard.

Another great aspect that makes perfect festival hair is the accessories used to dress it up. You should be able to use different accessories to create a number of different looks without actually having to restyle the hair at all. Don’t forget many festivals last an entire weekend and hair should look great each day your there.

This is what I’ve tried to demonstrate in my entry. I’ve created one simple style and dressed it up with different accessories to create a number of different looks to see you through an entire weekends festival.

The style: Pretty messy loose boho waves.

20120730-172907.jpg

My daughter has very long hair so I brushed and separated the hair into sections with clips and grips. I then used heated tongs to curl the hair doing small sections at a time until the entire head was complete.

Alice-Sara has beautiful thick hair so I took some of the hair from the back and pinned this slightly higher as to create a waterfall effect.

20120730-175009.jpg

I then used small purple flowers attached to twisty wire and placed randomly within the hair.

Lastly I used a flower and ribbon head piece to give it a real enchanted boho pixie effect and of course a pretty dress and pair of pixie wings to match.

Note… This style is perfect for younger festival goers, yet drop the outfit and you also have the perfect festival hair regardless of age.

20120730-180135.jpg

20120730-180257.jpg

As you can tell from the photos a bit of face paint, glitter and a few gems gives the look a really funky boho look.

20120730-180501.jpg

20120730-180555.jpg

20120730-180859.jpg

Now as promised, without having to restyle the hair I created some other festival looks with the use of accessories alone.

By removing the flower headpiece and those pretty flowers placed randomly within the hair, I then replaced with a sparkly scarf tired around the middle of the head. Now you have yourself a really cool relaxed hippy chick look.

20120730-181240.jpg

Then by removing the scarf and adding a cute butterfly headpiece you get this relaxed boho festival look…

20120730-181416.jpg

20120730-181526.jpg

It’s easy to dress your festival hair up to take it from day to night, why not dress your curls ready for a masked ball.

20120730-181814.jpg

Or add a flashing light hair clip to the front of your hair, your guaranteed not to be missed

20120730-182036.jpg

Now how to create the look. Curl hair before arriving at you destination even if camping your not going to find a plug socket at a festival. There are many products you can use but how about trying the new Schwarzopf Osis range.

Wash hair the day before, curls take better when hair hasn’t just been washed. For perfect boho curls work in some Osis Curl me soft £11.05 then get curling with some heated tongs. This will give fantastic curl definition without stuffiness.

Once complete use some Osis Dust it £12.95 worked into hands and applied to the ends of the hair to creat that perfect messy vibe with a non-greasy finish. Your curls will look beautiful and shimmering gorgeous.

Just to make sure the whole thing remains in place, spray some Osis formation freeze £9.25 over your bouncy boho curls for maximum hold and effect.

#Joe Browns School Run Style Challenge

7 Jun

So I recently heard about a bloggers challenge and anybody who knows me will know that Claire Louise loves a challenge!

However this is not a challenge to drag my sons butt out of bed of a morning, nor is this a challenge to run around begging him to get dressed! Nope… It’s something else way more desirable than any of the above! This is a style challenge, one fit for a school run!

Now I hear you laughing, admittedly I don’t have time to slap my face on and raid my wardrobe for something stylish during the early morning! I spread far to much time sorting the children to get an opportunity! When your child has Aspergers Syndrome it tends to become something of a war zone in the mornings but believe it or not… Once upon a time, before the morning battles associated with weekdays, I did used to spend some proportion of the morning caring about my own appearance (not that I don’t care now that is)!

So hearing about the School run style challenge by Joe Brown in conjunction with Best British Bloggers, I got a tad excitable and dashed of to the Mac to read more about it!

Basically the aim of the game is to visit Joe Brown’s lovely online store and by using their online selection of clothing and accessories, create a style fit for the school run.

So, I did it! Here’s my creation.

Here’s what this mum came up with

20120607-044556.jpg

The Lovely layered longline tannic with pretty rose print looks both comfy yet totally stylish. I love the shabby chic, vintage look this garment let’s off.

The above tanic is just crying out for a pair of must have jeans and these white must have basic jeans are a match made in heaven. They are a must have fashion item this summer and can be so easily dressed up or down.

As I like to coordinate from head to toe, I decided upon this very pretty cute little pumps. Boasting a very simple but pretty design I felt they worked perfectly with the floral tanic.

The Joe brown special bracelet is so simple and pretty. I love charms and this would set the outfit of nicely. I’m a massive fan of accessories as these can really help create the perfect outfit

A yummy mummy has to have a yummy necklace and I love this very unique flower pendent

And lastly I couldn’t have a completed outfit without…

20120607-045642.jpg

Yes a decent pair of sunnies (I never said I’d be wearing makeup on the school run so these are great to hide the bags) and of cause a decent handbag (the fact this one comes with the statement scarf is just another added bonus)!

I’m pretty proud of the outfit I’ve created. I feel it’s shabby with a modern twist. Pretty vintage florals and skinnie pastels are simply the summer must have!

What do you think?

If you’re a parent blogger who wants to get involved then checkout the rules here. Otherwise feel free to pop over to the Joe Brown online store and check out what it has on offer! They currently have clearance items at fabulous prizes.

Disclaimer: This is my entry into the Joe Brown and Best British Bloggers School Run Style Challenge competition.

Davina for Next – Week 2

19 Jan

As I write this, I am dying to run downstairs and munch one of the soft, sugary ring donuts the other half brought home for the children! The fact that I am still here, not there, shows how my flaking willpower has started its journey in repairing itself!

Yes, it’s now my second week on the road to fitness with the help of Next, Davina MCcall and 9 other bloggers (who have all been very supportive, via twitter and commenting here on the blog).

So… How was week one?

On the food front, I’m hanging in there, its hard, I cannot deny! Yet, I am proud of myself and how I’m sticking to a healthier eating plan (I’ve only had chocolate once this week, and that my friends, is a miracle)! I’m now eating healthier options which this week has consisted of mainly foods high in portion reducing my carb in-take a little. I’ve also eaten at more sensible hours and I have tried to ensure that nothing crosses these lips in the late hours.

What about RedBull Lights, I hear you asking? Well, I haven’t stopped drinking these completely, id be a liar if I said I have, though what I can report is, I’m now drinking a huge amount less of the horrid addictive stuff than I was before I started my health kick… No more than one can per-day and yesterday I had not a drop (massive improvement from the five cans I’m used too)! This one isn’t easy, the stuff is addictive like coffee… but worse if I’m honest!

Exercise

For the first 4 days it was going so well! I did most of what I planed to do, with the exception of dog walking (my mother embarks on such a task at the strangest of hours, with three kids to parent, my mum has done her duties alone). I’ve also not been swimming or clubbing on a Friday night, more to the petty! I did buy a gym ball (the peanut kind) and I admit I went crazy and brought not one but 5 fitness DVDs and have tried a few. Everything on the plan was going really well, then four days in I was struck down with a horrid flu bug and exercise was the last thing on my mind, so I’ve basically spent three days struggling to climb out of bed! Nonetheless, I’m starting to feel like myself again and I plan to make up for lost time and up my todo list this week.

There was however, a nice surprise on Saturday afternoon that helped brighten up a rather gloomy day! My new Next FIT shoes, available via the ‘Davina for Next’ innovative footwear range, arrived at my door.

These are my beautifully shiny red pantent corsage slab shoes, equipped with the new ‘Next FIT’ technology!

Lovely, don’t you think?

Not only do these shoes look lovely but they are really comfortable too! I have to say, when I first saw them, I really never expected them to be so comfortable to wear! There was no new shoe blisters or no aching feet, and since they have arrived, I’ve worn them on most days and even in the house like slippers. Choosing a pair of shoes from the Davina range was the hardest task for me, I choose my fitness outfit within a few minutes but I seriously studied the pages of the Next Website that host these innovative shoes, and it took me the best part of an hour to decide. They do the slab shoes in one or two designs and in a range of colours, I’m seriously considering getting myself a black pair too. At £31, I feel they are very good value, if anything a bit of a bargain!

So… enough about shoes (this crazy loving shoe mum, could talk shoes all day)! Let me finish by jotting down and sharing my goals for the week ahead.

Goals for Week 2

All of the goals recorded in week one can stay with the exception of dog walking, this just isn’t gonna work! I’m upping the pace a little to make up for the past three days sickness and have decided to do this by upping the number of sit-ups and push-ups by adding 20 more on each, and I will also do a few more squats (Yer… I love squats really)!

I’ve now got a gym ball which I’m loving! I will incorporate this more into my daily exercise routine (yes, instead of just siting on it)!

I’m also hoping to have a Friday night on the dance floor this week or next, so all you fellow bloggers, come fitness freaks (aka fellow 9 Davina for Next bloggers) you fancy getting your groove on? I say let’s go swing our pants and have some serious fun getting fit!

So… that’s it

Till next week… its good-bye 🙂

Yippydada the coolest changing bag around

9 Oct

Oh my goodness check this baby out!

What you see before you is no ordinary bag, Oh… No!

Would you believe it if I told you that this stunner of a bag, is actually a Yippydada Lynx baby changing bag?

 Well, it is!

I saw this changing bag on a fellow blog and fell head over heels in love with it and this was before I knew its intended use.

Now you may ask why I need one now Harley is 22 months (two short months off his 2nd Birthday) but in actual fact I have discovered I need one more than ever.

Harley is wearing pull ups, at times he wears his tiny little underpants so we require a change of clothes when out and about in case of accidents. His also still using a bottle as he always has a bottle of cows milk at lunchtime whether we are at home or not as well as one at bedtime and when he wakes. We also keep his trainer cup to hand with his fruit juice in (that or a couple of cartons of innocents) Then there’s all them other bits and pieces like wipes , etc.

Now I’ll be honest here, if you put your hand In my handbag there’s no promising you’re ever see it again, Its like the lost world in there! Seriously I carry so much stuff I’m surprised I don’t capsize.

It’s a total pain having to carry the changing bag as well as my own handbag, the changing bag we have isn’t a beautiful sight, more an eye sore. I’ve looked for one that can possibly manage all mine and Harley’s things so I don’t have to lob two bags around when we go out but haven’t had any lucky whatsoever.

Well, in till now of course.

This bag is so nice it doesn’t even resemble a changing bag, more like a bang on trend  handbag.

Delivery of my Lynx changing bag from Yippydada was next day I was shocked how quickly it arrived via Royal mail.

This bag was even nicer than it was in the images on their website. The animal print material that makes up most of the bag had a velvety texture to it and it’s really soft.

The edging, straps and sides of the bag are faux brown leather but real good quality.

The style is bang on trend and is guaranteed to turn heads and create a little bag envy. However despite its ultra sleekness it’s totally practical and of course being a changing bag it meets all the sort after requirements mums expect from a changing bag but with some added WOW.

You have two small pockets at the front of the bag (ideal place for them little bits you need to get at fast such a dummies etc). There is a zip pocket on the outer back of the bag which is nice and roomy. I’ve actually used this compartment to store my small purse as it feels relatively secure when the bag is over my shoulder and under my arm as the pocket is against my body making it harder to access by those with sticky fingers.

On opening the bag there was a few more pleasant surprises. First I discovered the matching leopard print potable changing mat that when unfolded is a great size to lay over the top of any public baby changing facilities (my pet hate, especially the dirty ones)!

I also uncovered a lovely matching bottle holder that will keep bottles at a desired temperature. I couldn’t leave home without one of these when all three of my children were newborns, they are a god send for busy mums on the go! However I’m also finding use for this, as mentioned Harley still likes an afternoon bottle of warm milk and will not give up till he gets one!

Next I found a waterproof zip pouch which I found great for storing anything wet, example… Harley wet underpants (yes, it’s early days). This would be great for storing sterile teats, dummies , etc., for the baby a little younger.

Lastly you get a long extendable strap that can be clipped onto the bag and then hung over the handles of your child’s pram/pushchair.

These guys have thought of everything!

The inside of the bag is a pink water proof material with lots of pockets to keep yours and your little ones, “Can’t leave home without essentials”. It’s extremely roomy and has an inside zip pocket that is reasonably deep, a great place to put your purse, mobile or even both. I would normally worry about placing my mobile in Harley’s changing bag just incase it gets wet somehow (maybe through contact with wet wipes or a leaky bottle even). You haven’t got that worry with this bag as its inside lining is totally water proof and the zip pocket keeps this from happening.

Visiting my mother yesterday my younger sister who is almost 18 flew at me demanding to know where I had got my beautiful bag! Her jaw needed scrapping off the floor when I announced it was a changing bag. She then stated she didn’t care who would know?

I then got asked by a fellow mum or two down at my daughters school, where I got my bag from. Again shock showed in their stunned faces when I told them the bags intended use.

This shock was short lived and replaced soon after with excitement and me handing over the website address.

It seems like Yippydada have really hit the nail on the head with this one!

If you think my Yippydada bag is lush check out the others on their site. There really is something for everyone.

The Lynx Yippydada Lynx changing bag is priced at £55. OK, this isn’t the cheapest changing bag on the market but it sure is the prettiest I’ve seen in like FOREVER!

Think about it! There are plenty of changing bags that are not half as nice as this one which cost the same and sometimes even more!

Anyhow like I said there is really no need to use a handbag alongside this changing bag. How much is a handbag these days?

Anyway, don’t panic because Yippydada have been kind enough to pass on an exclusive offer to my readers.

25% off any of the Yippydada range for a limited time only.

Just use this code Yippy25% when placing your order over at the Yippydada website.

So, what are you waiting for?

Back to school with Matalan

6 Sep

Some weeks back, I wrote a post giving some, ‘Back to school tips’ to fellow parents of children on the autism spectrum. One of these tips related to shopping and the common issues experienced when having to shop with a child on the autism spectrum. With these issues in mind, I made the suggestion of purchasing your, “Back to school necessities” online, and to do so within good time!

Well, I must admit, that I myself failed, “Yet Again” to follow my own advice. Last week I still had school shoes, lunch boxes, PE kits and more to buy!

Well, thank you Matalan for saving me from what may have been, a shopping nightmare! Little man has been known to have some almighty mid shop meltdowns and I didn’t fancy another!

Yes, the lovely people at Matalan sent me an email setting me a challenge. I’m pretty used to challenges, but in this case it was the welcomed type!

The Challenge

Matalan online sent me a £50 voucher,  all I had to do was spend it carefully, getting as much for my £50 as possible. Lastly, I was to share my bargains here with my readers!

Exclusive

I also received an exclusive reward, ‘A boredom busting voucher booklet’ entitling me to a discount of 20% of at ‘Yellow Moon’ as well as lots of other offers to keep the kids smiling such as, Kids bowl free, kids go free to Merlin attractions, (Legoland, Chessington and more) 2 for one on visits to Merlin attractions and many more.To little man’s delight the boredom busting booklet also contain a 25% off City sightseeing bus tours (yep, we’re going next week).

I am unsure if the promotion is still active. To find out, or check for any other offers, check the Matalan site or the blog (URLs at the bottom of the page).

Sale

The Sale is currently still on and is offering some items at a massive 75% off  As you can see from the above, it hosts some great bargains!

For me my best buy has to be the Hooch boots that had a fabulous £11.25 saving. These will do Alice-Sara proud in the winter I’m sure! They look really well made, as-well as being bang on trend.

Leggings £1 (were £6) Girls biker boots by Hooch, £3.75 (were £15)

The non stick pans, well, how can you resist a price like this? £5.50 is a steal.

Non-stick pans in Red, £5.50 (was £22)

The two bras are a bargain at £6 each but getting them both for £3 is super, and was simply my little teat to me! (Sorry guys I haven’t posted a pic of these but you can check out the underwear range online)

We decided that the leggings were much to nice for PE and having only cost £1 we are very pleased with them.

Even the items not in the sale were a steal. Little man has problems with his fine motor skills, making laces a problem! His black trainers with velcro fastening are ideal and a great price too!

Girls Black button shoes, £8

Boys black trainers, £7

Autumn range

I was sent some fantastic books showcasing the new women’s and homeware range for the Autumn. The books were super posh and came with CD-ROMs

It’s clear to see that Matalan’s have had a redesign and I was pretty  impressed and excited at what was on offer throughout both of these books.

Looks like its going to be a fantastic Autumn at Matalan this year.
