Lovely art, your son really has an amazing talent! My 9 year old son also has autism and he loves to scribble and doodle, hopefully he’ll be as good as this one day 🙂

My son Morgan has been diagnosed with Aspergers from about 3 years old, he is now 13, he won The Art Olympics Competion this year at his school. Much to our surprise! We were very proud of him…..He normally only likes to draw in black and white (in pencil) and in story board style. His school are trying to encourage him to branch out into colour!?!
I will try and find a photo of his Winning entry. He is going to take art as one of his chosen subjects in year 10 (I was quite surprised at this as I never thought he was particularly ‘arty’ He is interested in computer graphics so I suppose It would help with that.)

My 10 year old has Aspergers and HATES art or anything creative at all. His drawings are very immature, more like a 3/4 year olds and as he is going to post-primary in September I can see this is going to be a real problem.

Lovely art! Please keep encouraging your son! My daughter is 8 and has ASD, as do I. We are both very artistic. She loves to make comic books and cartoons, and draws in all black and white, only in pencil, she is very specific about her style. If she is not allowed to draw in class, she sometimes pulls her hair out actually. I keep telling her that if she does well in all her subjects in school, not only art, some day she might be able to go to art school like her mom if she wants. 🙂

Art is such a vital way for children with Autism to express themselves – infact it is priceless in almost every behavioural or emotional difficulty! You are an amazing woman 🙂

Lovely pictures. The picture of the girl with the stripy dress and smiley face made me smile. Some of these pictures would be lovely on cards.

oh silly me, I was still in the same mindset as the last blog I read

I am still coming to terms with having aspergers.
I’m sad because I realise now how much of my potential has been wasted by an unwillingness to conform to normal social behaviours.
I’m happy I have a son with it, we have great fun together, no holds barred.
I will ensure all my relatives have support in finding their niche in the world, with the passion we have there is nothing we can’t do.
What I love about me is the sheer innocense. Though being grown up and responsible gets in the way much of the time, the memory of the really free times gives me nice warm fuzzies.

    Hi
I have a family of ASD’s and I have a facebook group called “Autistic Mums Creative Group”. I would love to have a link to your site here. How do I go about this if you are agreeable to it?
    Thanks Dianne

My son is 7 and we are waiting for his aspergers diagnosis at the moment (and getting very fed up of the aspergers traits and scoring highly on all aspergers assessments but we don’t want to label him comments in the meantime, I am not sure how ADHD isn’t a label!).

Isaac getrs completely lost in his artwork, and his pictures are always incredibly detailed, nice to see many others on here who clearly enjoy art as much as him.

    Amei conhecer voces.

  24. freyasworld April 27, 2009 at 5:31 pm #

Hi Claire, it’s Freya. 🙂 Sorry I didn’t give you my picture, I should have done it AGES ago… But I have great news.
Basically, a few months ago, I decided that I didn’t want to be home-schooled anymore. So my mother tried to get me a statement to go into a special school because I couldn’t cope in a normal school. The office people said NO. 😦
So then I decided I wanted to be brave and go back to my original school. But it was full. 😦
But now we have found a different school with a place! We’re waiting for the office people to ring us up and say we can go there and have free transport! 😀
I’m really happy now because I’m going back to school! And I’m glad that there will be nobody that I know because then there will be nobody that I don’t like because they’re mean.
