Here on ‘A boy with Aspergers’ we are firm believers in education from an early age. That’s why we love the Alphablocks.
Gone are the days when children’s programmes lacked in educational value! Now children’s TV is full of exciting yet educational programmes allowing your pre-schoolers a good head start ahead of school.
One of those shows is that of Alphablocks, the successful show first brought to our screens by CBeebies.
But wait! As of the 25th February 2013 Volume 1 – Alphablocks Phonics First Steps will be available to purchase on DVD.
Has you’re little one(s) not yet had the opportunity to see the Alphablocks? Well, here’s a little more about them…
Alphablocks open the door to a magical world of reading. How? Well
These 26 living letters who fall out of the sky discover that if they hold hands together they can make a word, which then magically comes to life!
The Alphablocks are Based on best-practice phonics, your child will laugh and learn with the little letter people and their adventures, songs and all
kinds of fun and games.
Volume 1: Phonics First Steps, also comes with a FREE Alphablocks, Alphabet poster for your little one to enjoy. The DVD introduces the first letters and sounds that children are taught at school and starts them off making simple words. With repeat viewing, children can build key phonics skills and boost their reading confidence – while having lots and lots of fun.

I’m a teacher and I use this in my lessons all the time! Would love to have a permenant copy of it.
I make games like ‘cross the crocodile river to get children both reading and spelling words. (The children have to either jump on letters and say them out loud to read the word in order to cross the infested river, or spell their own words to create a bridge that helps then cross the river). The children love it!
I’ve my fingers crossed; Good luck everyone x

I make loads of funny voices for the characters and, often, we snuggle up together while we read which is always fun 🙂
To make reading fun and enjoyable I always make sure we’re cuddled up together, I read whichever book they want although I try to encourage trying new ones when old favourites get tired and then vary the tone, pitch and volume of my voice.

To make learning to read interesting I have pictures/photo of objects I spell the words out by stretching out the sound. My boys think its funny and play a long. I hope it will all start to fall into place. My eldest is just turned 5 and cant get to grips with it. his attention span doesnt last too long. I hope Alphablocks Phonics helps!
We’re at the very early stages of learning to read. We read lots of books together and I also got her a great ‘Letter Factory’ toy which is helping her to recognise letters. I try hard to talk about letters in everyday life – on road signs, at shops etc.

We do funny voices, have a cosy reading corner with lots of bean bags and cushions, we pretend play the story afterwards or sing appropriate songs, we make and craft the characters from our stories to use when we read them again, plenty trips to the library…my boys adore reading and love snuggling up together reading their favourite stories.
Following both on Twitter as @RSollick
We find things to count or colours to point out on each page, keeps them both interested if they can join in somehow.
